just lately I have noticed that when I am grooming my male neutered cat, 5- 10 large drops of this nasty brown liquid are on his hindquarters, not in a spray but a couple of large droplets . He has never had a spray problem and is 8 yrs old. I also noticed a few drops on the floor that dried and took ALOT of work to clean them up. Has a unusual & nasty odor, so I am guessing it s like marking spray, but why during grooming which he enjoys?

It could be from an impacted anal gland.  Cat spray should be clear or light yellow.  Also, neutered cats usually don't spray.  You should take him to the vet ASAP for a check-up.

Sounds exactly like anal gland stuff.  Agree, a quick vet check will probably sort it out.
