Some of you might already know this - quick summary- I have been interviewed for another job and my boss doesn't know about it yet.

I met with my CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) who's above my boss to tell him about some of my frustrations with my boss and to ask if there are any possibility of me changing bosses.  The meeting went well and to my surprise, the CMO said that he's currently restructuring the dept anyway and promised me that I WILL be transferred to a different position (in the same dept) under a different boss.

Later on that day, I got an email back from the agency which I interviewed with and they want me to submit a background check which I know I will pass with no trouble then they will make an offer from there.

My dilemma is this -  should I give my CMO a heads up that I am expecting another job offer or should I just wait and see what happens? I don't want CMO and others restructuring the department and placing me in another position then find out that I'm leaving for another job (If I decide to go for it)....

I am really torn about which to go for and as of now, I am just waiting to see what the salary would be for the position since they said "The pay will not be what you are worth but the benefits and people are great" which worries me. I want to be able to continue paying my bills and have enough money to live comfortably..

What are your thoughts and advice about whether I should give my CMO a heads up about a potential job offer so he'd know to hold off on restructuring or?

My advice is don't say anything yet, wait until you actually get an offer...

What do you want out of your career?

Will the new job offer you "more" of what you want. I'm not necessarily talking about money. I'm talking about job satisfaction. Room for advancement. More challenges.

Is the only problem at your current job the current manager, or are there other issues that are bothering you? I know that your co-workers tend to play jokes on you quite often and you posted once about how someone you work with embarrassed and upset you at a funeral with their obnoxious joke-like behaviour.

Do you truly love the place you are working at now. Can you see yourself working there in 5 years? 10 years?  Retiring from there?

He's going to restructure the dept. anyway, so you leaving shouldn't change that, although it sounds like they'd definitely miss you. It's very nice to be valued in your job.

Personally, I would hold off until you get a firm offer and know which direction you want to go.

Wish me luck!!

I got a job offer from the other agency.  I will meet with a supervisor at my current company within the next hour or so to find out more information about the position that I will be transferring to and at that point, I will inform him that I am seriously considering the other job offer and see what he says..

Thanks for the vibes!  It went well. :)

I decided to take the new job and will be starting on May 6th so my last day of working at my current job will be April 30th. I really wish I could've filmed my boss's reaction when I told him. He HAD NO CLUE that this was coming. LOL. His face literally went white and he couldn't speak for a while. I asked him a few questions about what he'd like for me to do for the remaining time (meaning if he'd like to keep some projects "unfinished" for the new person so that'd give him training opportunities) and he said he couldn't think about it. He needed time to absorb the news. LOL.

He is now trying to have me finish up most of the  projects before I leave AND he's scrambling to have me transfer information on a shared location so he'd have access after I leave. I can tell he's realizing how much he's losing with me leaving since I have a large network of people that I often use for our filming projects.

It's very interesting to see how people are reacting to the fact that I'm leaving. One Vice President is actually upset but it's too late. Many people have come over to my cubicle or bumped into me and asked me WHY would I leave. They are extremely disappointed and I have been saying the same thing over and over- it's a new and exciting opportunity and I've missed helping people so this new job will give me that opportunity to help people directly.

I know of 2 friends who have applied for the new job that I got and hmm they're not too happy with me for getting the job that they wanted. One actually sent me a scathing text about how he wished wished wished that I  had told him that I was applying, how unfair it was and how he wanted that job so badly. I replied back and said, that's actually why I didn't tell him- cuz I didn't want there to be any awkwardness between us. Sigh. The other friend texted me after she saw my posting on my facebook about getting the job and she said "I'm guessing you got the job that I applied for?" and I replied, "Yes..." She replied and said, "Congrats."  That was it. I felt bad especially since I knew she applied twice for that job but at the same time, hey, it's the real world and it wasn't my decision about who they selected for the job.

I feel really free now knowing that I don't have to deal with my boss anymore after April 30th. :)

Best of luck on the new job. You have to do what's best for you. And sounds like jealousy and "sour grapes" on the part of the other people who wanted the job.

Looks like you were by far the best candidate and you deserve it!
