first thanks for getting me through this. I've been lurking since realizing we were going to have kittens.

Well tonight was the night. She had 5. The last one came about an hour ago now, he's still got the umbilical cord and placenta attached to him. Should I do anything?

Thanks in advance.

You can tear the cord with your clean nails. A couple inches from the belly. Tear towards the kitten so you don't pull on the belly. She doesn't need to eat this placenta if she has already eaten the others. Let us know how things are going.

And remember the mother can get pregnant again very soon after delivery.  Keep her in until she is spayed, ring your vet and ask how soon after delivery he will spay her.

Do you plan to weigh them every day? We do recommend it, the easiest way to notice if they are not gaining properly. Use a kitchen/mail scale, measuring in grammes. Easiest if it is a electronic. They dont need to be costly.  You can use it afterwards in your home.   :)

Good luck!

By the time I got back to her she'd already taken care of it. She's not going outside until she's been fixed. She was a stray that adopted us. Vet says when the kittens are 8 weeks old. She'll be there right away.

All seems well this morning. I'll look into getting a scale. How much weight do they need to gain on a regular basis?

10+ is a good measure. Some one day it may be less, but if less two days running - warning... needs perhaps some extra feeding or...

Good luck!
