I will be looking into get Rocko's teeth clean after he has gotten better from his UTI and his hyperthyroidism is controlled. I am wondering about putting a 13 year old cat under anesthesia. Is that even safe? What do other people do in terms of teeth care for cats? I will be asking all these questions to my vet when that time comes, I just want all of your opinions too. Thank you so much for your replies. Could you all share your experiences with having your cat's teeth cleaned too?

My Silly just had two teeth extracted Tuesday.  She is 13, is FHV positive and has had an eye removed.  She has been under anesthesia three times in the last year. She came out just fine all three times.  She is running around, making a pain of her self as usual. I am keeping a closer eye on her than usual, though.

It should be safe, but some anasthetics are better than others for older cats.  Suggest you discuss this with your vet.  If he needs extractions he will feel so much better afterwards, if they just need cleaning it's good to keep on top of this to avoid extractions.
