So last month my job gave me two weeks notice because they hired someone to replace me. Sent me to do deliveries a couple times and learned that I was pretty good at it, so they offered me a FT job they originally never mentioned to me. Rather than be out of a job, I took it. It was supposed to be what I did, but ~8am-5pm hours and throw in a few deliveries helping other drivers. Had fun in the beginning (about 3 weeks ago). Last Friday, two drivers quit, so they threw me on a full route. Wasn't happy about that, I've been doing it for a week now and have gotten better at it, but it's not what I want to be doing.

Noticed a job I applied to in February was relisted, and I realllllly wanted it, so I went down there in person yesterday to apply and give another copy of my resume. Figure I'd get "in their faces" and show them by making the time to go there as well I am making a serious attempt to get the job. BF tells me to be present, and "annoying" :lol3: That's how I got my job at the lab in 2006. My job has had me so fed up recently that Monday I started the search again anyway. Not 20 minutes after leaving my resume, the terminal manager called me and said he'd like to interview me and was pretty excited by my resume. Found out my BF's manager and this guy worked together 10 years ago, so I filed away the opportunity to "name drop" in the interview and have an available reference who knows my ability to learn quickly.

Well apparently my Gmail outbox didn't close all the way when I left work. Another manager from another location was there because everything is so messed up at our terminal, and he started snooping through my sent box. Flipped out asking who I was to the night shift guy, and demanded that he take a screen shot of my emails and send them to the upper management. I found out about it this morning when my manager took me aside and asked about it. I saw red. I said to him "Next time you guys want to snoop my personal emails, maybe you should look at the DATES I sent those emails before going crazy sending them to more people who have no business with them. They were sent nearly TWO MONTHS ago, when you guys gave me notice because you began the hiring process for someone else. But since you are so nosy, I DID hear back from a company yesterday and I WILL be talking with them." Apparently one of the other drivers there claimed that I posted all over Facebook that I was going to bring my resume somewhere, which IS NOT all over Facebook. I didn't specify where I was going yesterday or why, he just wanted to stir the pot more. I am so over this place and using me though.

My interview today lasted over two hours. The terminal manager showed me the facility, took me out to show me their big tank lifts since I said I'd never seen such large lifts, and kept referring to the one empty desk as my desk, saying he would move the white board out of my way if I wanted to put other stuff there, etc. Said I was perfectly qualified out of the tons of applicants they had. Said he could really see me in the position and as long as my background check says I'm not a drug smuggler, he believes we could truly benefit each other, etc. Downside is that I have to wait until Monday to hear anything back from him because the corporate office is closed tomorrow. Suspense! I want this sooooo bad. I'm afraid to get too excited, even though he sounded incredibly positive today. He was even talking about transferring me to the New Jersey terminal if I ever wanted to go back home.

Other than that, the dog is driving me up a wall, school is keeping me on my toes because of unorganized teachers, there's more BF-family-drama because of Easter, but I'm totally looking forward to the weekend just to relax, whether or not I partake in the drama or not :lol3: It feels like I never stop these days, and while I LOVE being busy, it stinks waking up in the morning to go somewhere I don't want to go. I'd love a hot tub, unlimited books, and glass (bottle-sized!) of wine. I'd never leave it ;)

Oh yeah, and for those that remember I had the creepy guy at work last time I posted a thread, they fired him, and the girl who kept telling him he had a chance. Not because of his creeper-ness, but because he stunk at his job.

Hope everyone has been doing well and has a great Easter :wavey:

Are you a drug smuggler? ;)  If not, sounds like you already have the job, and the reference check is just a formality.  That's what it was like when I interviewed for my current job. Based on what was said in the interview, I was 100% sure I had the job and that it was just dependent on the references.

Thanks all!

I was laid up in bed all weekend with a stomach virus. I've forgotten what the outdoors looks like. But no, definitely not a drug smuggler either :lol3: I told him I never quite felt the urge to break into that industry.

Today I took off my crappy job because I was still feeling icky last night and the last thing I needed was to be stuck in a van 2 hours away from home most of the day (or be stressed and overexerting myself). The manager at the company I interviewed with called me around 10:30 and said everything came back great and the job is mine!!! He just wanted to call and let me know so I wouldn't be waiting all day, and said he would speak with me later on as well as send over the official letter. What a great thing to hear today!! I am trying to hold off giving my job the notice until I get the official offer letter, but considering he told me the salary I was asking for (which is higher than my current one, but about mid-level on what their range was) would probably be lower than what they offered me, I already know I am taking the job. I'd just like to have the notice sent to my current employer by this evening because I intend to make Friday my last day. If they don't believe I was sick, so be it, I don't really care anymore. They've taken advantage of me lately since I've been in this new position, and there's a reason their turnover rate is extremely high.

So I'm mentally bouncing up and down (I don't think my body will yet accept physically bouncing,... too much stomach shaking in that!) and can't wait to take the next step!

I don't usually find glee in having to say "I told you so!!"  But in this case I'll make the exception!  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and I hope you feel better!!
Thank you :) :)

My BF is finding glee in saying "I told you so" to me :lol3: His "I told you so" comes from telling me to go down there and get "in their faces" and make my presence known, since when I originally sent a resume through their job ad, I never got a response. It took me nearly 2 months and finding the job posting relisted to do it, and now he's all "Should I say it now... or later...?" LOL.

I emailed my employer notice, since I was not there today. Tomorrow should be a fun day

Congratulations! It was very considerate of the new job to call and let you know rather than keep you waiting all day. A company that does that should be a good place to work.

Good luck -- and it just shows you that things work out for the best!

Thanks ladies :)

I was impressed with calling me early to let me know so I wouldn't lose my mind all day :) He seems to be a pretty cool guy. I had sent him an email earlier since I know he screens all of his calls, and he actually has a sense of humor and isn't all "stiff professional" (in my email I said my name, and was like "If the email address didn't give it away already"... he told me I gave away my secret identity :lol3: ) Welcomed me aboard the team there, and I can't wait for Monday!

He did tell me a few times that they treat their employees well and that it is an enjoyable place to work. It seemed like everyone there was happy that I met, so I took that as a good sign :) Since the beginning working at the job I'm leaving, people had negative things to say about it, including the person who had hired me there (he quit 7 working days after I started). Of course, they did leave all that out in the interview

Tomorrow I go for a drug test and all that good stuff. I know I'm good there (didn't even take medication for the stomach virus, so no paranoid worries on something crazy appearing!). I already am feeling less stressed and breathing easier knowing I won't be getting hurt at work or lose my mind when the schedule changes constantly when there's already a plan in place, I get my own desk in under a week (and I'm an office supply nutjob :lol3: finally a place to put it all!), learn a new job that will benefit me and my future, and most of all be happy!

Thanks! :)

Today I got down there for the drug test since yesterday I had too much work to do. They also gave a breathalyzer test. Never had one of those before for a job :lol3: Good thing I didn't have "celebratory lunch margaritas" or something ;) (Not like I'd even have time for that in these last days at the old job... they are working me hard now and my manager barely talks to me).

I was even more impressed with my new job yesterday. My new boss called and asked what kind of keyboard I wanted for the computer. I had no idea I'd get a choice! Went in and met all my new coworkers today, got to see my desk partially set up and ready with aforementioned new keyboard, mouse, dual monitors, comfy chair. Got a bit of job-related literature to read up on (and already have read it - it was interesting!), and all the login info for my training on Monday. Was informed my pay will be higher than I had asked for, even better (which means at least a .50 cent an hour increase from what I'm making now!)

These last 2 days at the old job are going to be rough, especially not even knowing what I'm going to be doing since they keep changing the plans. My manager sent a not so nice email in response to my notice, and I've been very tempted to reply back to the incorrect statements he made regarding my employment and "promises" I supposedly made. I will probably just leave it be though. He is saying that I promised to be in it for the "long haul" if I was moved to FT, which is a lie. I told him flat out when I agreed to take the job "I cannot guarantee this job will be for me, but I am willing to at least give it a shot." To which he originally replied "well that is true for any job so it makes sense." Well, it is definitely not for me. At 26, I shouldn't be coming home to my heating pad and aches and pains and be limping because my knee hurts thanks to work. I don't need to lift 100lb pieces of furniture and hundreds of pounds of paper each day.

Ok at this point I'm just rambling, but thanks for letting me have a place to do it

Figured instead of starting a new thread, I'd just update this one again.

I absolutely LOVE my new job!!!! It was a great first week, I learned a good bit, and get along well with my coworkers! A few of us share being from the north in common, so we talk a lot about the great food in NJ/NY. They said they just feel like I was the person meant to be there with them. That was nice to hear :) Then, a couple days ago, I got news I was getting sent to New Orleans for a week for training! They wanted to fly me there and back, but I asked if I could drive so the BF could come too... and they said yes!!! So we are going to TN for a weekend vacation this coming weekend, then leaving from Pigeon Forge and driving to New Orleans that Sunday. Spending a week there, then driving home the following Saturday. I've never been to Louisiana, neither has the BF. We were JUST talking about how we'd like to visit there after seeing a restaurant featured on a few Food Network shows, now we can go! Some of the girls at work are jealous, they never got to go to NOLA for training.

The drivers are also pretty cool. They know my car already and always wave to me when we pass on the road :) Some of them already give me a "hard time" and everyone there is glad I'm not a stick in the mud and take everything seriously. The dispatch supervisor I work with made a comment joking around, and I was laughing. She's like I'm so glad you aren't one of those people who takes everything seriously! So far so good there! Still learning things, but have begun to do the majority of my job already. Then on Friday we were treated to a pizza lunch because the division is doing so well at staying on top of things.

It was crazy, that one job that contacted the BF back in Feb about wanting to hire me really bad, then I never heard anything? Well, they called him on Wednesday asking him if I were still looking ... .TWO MONTHS after originally expressing interest then falling silent. He told them they were 3 days too late ... so they told him if my job didn't work out to give them a call. That also made me feel like I ended up where I was supposed to. I feel so much better lately, being HAPPY to go to work. The BF said I was sort of "difficult" in recent months, being miserable at my job and it kind of rubbing off when I WASNT at work since I wasn't happy with my days. He's since said that I am much better lately and is glad to see me happy and excited about what I do  He's also excited he gets to join me to NOLA! Oh, and I get 50 cents an hour more here than I did at my old job!

When I quit my other job, on my last day my manager called me at 7:30 and asked me to come in early.... really? Call me the morning of and ask that? I hadn't even left the house yet and still had to drop the BF off at work.... Manager sent me on a totally new route, which I managed to finish at 2:45 after starting about an hour and a half after everyone else had left. He seemed a little grudging when he wished me luck in the new job, and asked what I was doing. When I said "Load coordinator for a tank container trucking company" he actually seemed a little impressed... I guess he figured I wasn't moving up... I don't miss that place at all. Only thing I miss is a few of the drivers there.

Ok I'll stop rambling now :lol3:
