I'm sure I'm overly concerned, wanting everything to be perfect, but is it normal after a simple neuter for our boy Si to seem a little weak in the back legs?

Logic tells me that is where all of his jumping power is & that he's still sore a day after the surgery.   The vet said there should be no complications & he should be back to normal activity today.  He is - mostly - if you mean eating & sleeping.

But even as low as our sofa sits seems a bit of a challenge at present.  I'm trying to catch him eyeballing where he wants to be & pick him up & put him there instead of him jumping.

I know how I would feel after having that done to me. A day isn't very long to stop being sore. Keep an eye on him and if he is not feeling better tomorrow, call the vet and ask his opinion.

Yes, quite normal. He is tired from the anesthesia and from a day without solid food, and he is still sore. For comparison, a human after a vasectomy is advised to rest for 48 hours afterward; the level of soreness is likely similar.

I figured as much.   He does appear to feel 90% better this morning & was even interested in chasing his rat toy for a little bit through his crinkly tunnel.  That is a relief to see him back to talking up a storm & wanting to play a bit.
