Well, we had plenty of warning that Wendel's FIV would eventually mean he'd need dental work. The original guess was "by the time he was three" and my big boy will be 5 next week, so I think we did okay with staving it off as long as possible.

Over the past few weeks, Wendel's breath has been getting pretty foul, so off he went to the vet today of a checkup and it looks like he'll need some extractions (probably 3 or 4 teeth). the vet isn't particularly worried, but says we should deal with he teeth as soon as possible because of the FIV and recommended a round of Interferon during the recovery to help him heal.

Wish me luck. I know we were expecting this since the day he got the FIV diagnosis, and I know that dental issues are just that and don't mean that the FIV has gone active, but so soon after losing Freya, I'm just a bit worried about the big guy...on the up-side, his weight is great, his muscle mass is great and he was such a good boy at the vet - he's come such a long way since we go him. If anyone could send us some nice, calm vibes, I'd really appreciate it.

Silly went through two extractions Tuesday and she came out fine.  She has FHV, an eye that was removed and is 13.
to Wendel and you.

Lots and lots of nice calming vibes for you and Wendel. I'm sure he will be just fine.

The big guy's in today to have his teeth done and I'm lining up a really busy day at work to keep me from getting nervous.

I know it's just a dental. I know we did this dozens of times with Cotton, but I'm still jupy since it's so soon after losing Freya and then my parents took one of thier dogs in for a routine check on the weekend and lost her on Monday...yeah. So keeping busy at work, waiting for the call that everythign went well and Mike can pick Wendel up after work.

Wendel did great (and made friends with the receptionist). He ended up getting 7 teeth pulled, but was far more active than our cats usually are after anasthaesia. Today he's already eaten breakfast and was good about taking his antibiotics.

So a huge sigh of relief from us. Thank you for the good thoughts.

I am so happy to hear all went well for Wendal.  It seems that recently a lot of cats (and people) on here are having teeth removed.
