Well, we had plenty of warning that Wendel's FIV would eventually mean he'd need dental work. The original guess was "by the time he was three" and my big boy will be 5 next week, so I think we did okay with staving it off as long as possible.
Over the past few weeks, Wendel's breath has been getting pretty foul, so off he went to the vet today of a checkup and it looks like he'll need some extractions (probably 3 or 4 teeth). the vet isn't particularly worried, but says we should deal with he teeth as soon as possible because of the FIV and recommended a round of Interferon during the recovery to help him heal.
Wish me luck. I know we were expecting this since the day he got the FIV diagnosis, and I know that dental issues are just that and don't mean that the FIV has gone active, but so soon after losing Freya, I'm just a bit worried about the big guy...on the up-side, his weight is great, his muscle mass is great and he was such a good boy at the vet - he's come such a long way since we go him. If anyone could send us some nice, calm vibes, I'd really appreciate it.
