Our cat is 11 and has been diagnosed with spinal stenosis at the sacrum.  We tryied some meds but that kepted him away for LITERALLY 30 straight hour.

Laser treatment seems pretty expensive.   Any home remedies out there? aspirin?

He does not seem to be in any pain but you know cats.

I sorry to hear about your cat.

Aspirin is toxic to cats.  I'd ask your vet about other types of pain meds, such as Tramadol.  Avoid Metacam at all costs.

Laser treatment may seems expensive, but is probably cheaper than surgery.

hello Grinder12000!

I'm new to this site and I realize your post is 6 years old.

My cat was diagnosed with the same at about the same age.  He's been going to a chiropractor regularly for the past 5 yeas that has done wonders.  He's 17.5 now and has become a lot stiffer in the past month or 2, so was thinking of trying supplements or something in addition to the chiropractic work. (he also gets acupuncture and laser about every 6 weeks.)

Did you find anything that works?

I'm looking into hyaluronic acid (glucosamine didn't do anything) and just started doing some research on stem cell injections (haven't found much on that yet.)  Obviously at this age I don't want anything aggressive...I always tried to stick to homeopathic medicine or chinese herbs when I can.

Most people that meet him think he is only 12..it's only I who notice his stiffness when he is changing sleeping positions...so I'm positively thinking we have a good number of years ahead of us.

I just posted about a similar issue with my cat. I'm in California. The Mum part made me think you might be in the UK or Ireland (I went to school in Dublin). I am really looking for advice on this. The neurologist I saw was very critical of chiropractic solutions but surgery on a 17 year old scares me more. I'd love specific advice and recommendations on finding a good chiropractor, what kind of laser therapy you use and anything else you could help with. So grateful for any help!

Hello CatMom1977!  Why was the neurologist against chiropractic care?  We've had great success with our chiropractor. I just read your other posts...you had a MRI done?  What did it show?

Where in California are you?  I know a great chiropractor close to LAX.  (Sam is born and raised in Hong Kong, hence the Mum-but now happily residing on the West Coast)

I just started investigating all possible treatments, so I will keep you informed.  He is getting his laser treatment next week, so will get the details on that for you too.  I think it is a class 3b laser?  It is administered by a vet who is also well trained in chinese medicine and physical therapy.

Thanks so much for replying. I'm in the Pasadena area. My cat Rawley has a herniated disc in the lumbar-sacroiliac region (IVDD) that was confirmed with an MRI. He can't extend his legs and is doing a bit of a crab walk. It originally started with a 2 day limp and then got to the point of almost dragging his back legs.  I'm winding down his steroids based on the neurologist's assessment since they don't seem to be working. He is on pain meds but I'm worried about how much pain he's in. He is 17. Surgery was recommended by the neurologist but due to his age I want to avoid that. I know stenosis is a pinching of the spine but maybe that is friendlier to chiropractic care. The neurologist and her techs see a lot of pets that come after getting hurt from chiropractic care so I think that is there relationship with that. I would love to know anyone nearby. I can tell my friends and family just think it's time to put him down but I'd like to try to help him. I've been looking up acupuncturists and laser therapy nearby but I haven't been able to find it.

I know the feeling.  I'll go to all lengths to make sure my 4 legged ones have the best (and longest)  life possible.

I'm seeing both my vet and chiropractor next week.  I'll ask them their opinion.  I'm new to this post (first post/blog I've joined in my entire life!) so I will attempt to send you a PM with their details if you want to reach out to them.  I'm in the South Bay,...and the Vet does house calls all over LA.
