It's Easter and flowers are everywhere - including the extremely toxic (to cats) LILY plant and flowers!

Cats are hypersensitive  to the poison in every part of the lily plant. Your cat doesn't have to eat a leaf or petal; even licking a speck of pollen from a paw or fur will begin kidney failure at 100% mortality rate if not treated before symptoms set in.

Most cat owners don't even know what happened to their cat until it's too late. If you know your cat came in contact with a lily plant, immediate emergency treatment is required for there to be any hope of survival. Do not wait for symptoms!

If you have a cat, do not bring these flowers indoors. If you are giving lilies to someone, please make sure they do not have a cat. All the different types of plants in the lily family should be avoided.

Putting the plant "up high" does not solve the problem since the pollen can fall to the floor and be licked off of paws.

This scary information does not seem to be common knowledge here - please spread the word to help stop unnecessary kitty deaths and suffering!

I know :(  It's so unfortunate too because lillies are my most favourite flower.  I still do order them sometimes, but I have them sent to my work so I can enjoy them there and keep my babies safe.

I doubt Abby would bother the plant, but I sure know Katie would. She killed my spider plant by eating it!

A few years ago, my husbands aunt brought lilies to my mother in law for Easter. Their cat died not too long after. They don't know if that is what caused it, but it probably was.

For a long time, I didn't know about lilies. In fact I had day lilies planted in the yard at my other house. The cats slept under them, but apparently never bothered them. I learned about them at this site, two years after I had moved from my other home. I didn't have any planted here in the part of the yard where my cats live. I am so glad I learned about them and that my cats never tried to eat them when I had them in my yard. It isn't worth the risk to have them where cats have access to them.
