Leo

Leo and I are a couple of new cats here on the block. I'm glad I stumbled across this website, it's very informative.

I adopted Leo when my daughter moved back home with him and then a year later moved out leaving him behind. A friend of hers brought him to her when a family from her neighborhood moved out. I feel that while they were moving out, he escaped. He loves going outside and chewing on the grass and wandering all over. So I think that when the time came for them to leave, he just couldn't be found.

I am allergic to cats and am completely surprised that he doesn't bother my allergies. I don't know if it's because he is grown and kittens just bothered me or if I became immune to cats' dander. Either way, I'm lucky to have him and not need Clariton everyday.

When my daughter named him, he was a girl. His first name was Chloe. A few weeks later while he was cleaning himself, it was discovered that he was a little dude. Since it was a couple of weeks into his name, she kept it thinking that it wouldn't bother him one way or the other.

She took him to the vet to be neutered and when she got there the vet couldn't find anything to neuter. He was either neutered already or the goods just didn't drop yet. That's when I figured that he was very well taken care of and probably was just an escapee.

When he moved in with us, my husband said he has to be renamed because it's just to mean and he can't call him Chloe. Then his second name became Cleo. After calling him that for a year I began calling him Leo making his third name more masculine. (Although he never answered to anything other than pssst.)

He doesn't like catnip unless its fresh. He doesn't like cat toys, just my balls of yarn. He is good when it comes to using a scratching post but sometimes he does sneak into the bedroom and use the carpet in there. I feel that we are lucky that he wound up with us. He is like my little shadow and will probably kill me one day. While I do the dishes he sits directly behind me waiting and if I forget that he is there, I will eventually fall and kill us both. I'm sure of it.

He is our little watch cat. He enjoys sitting on the back of the couch keeping watch on the neighborhood. His job is so important that the blinds have 4 slats in it that have been broken to the string so he can stick his head there and continue his watch all through the night. I really want to get new ones but think why bother. He will break the new blinds in the same spot.

And that's our story so far.

I wonder how such a seemingly well-loved kitten could have been left behind.  If he was neutered, it is strange he didn't have a microchip.

I'm also wondering if Leo may be a Russian Blue.  The reason I think it is that, from what I can see, he does look a little like the breed, but mainly because I have bad cat allergies and yet am unaffected by Russians.  Of course, it isn't important, just interesting.

Leo sounds like a great cat! Welcome to TCS! I have a similar story about Aria. My MIL took her in as a stray, but she did not get along with the other 2 male cats already in the house. I came visiting one day and absolutely fell in love with her despite never having had or even wanting a cat before. She came up to me and rubbed on me and arched into my hand when I started petting her, and that was it. Funnily enough, when I took her in to be spayed, the vet said he was 99% sure she had already been spayed. No microchip though. My MIL had posted flyers and checked the usual sites, but no one claimed her. We think she might have been left behind in a move since we live in a military town.

Anyway, like Leo, Aria also likes to stand right behind me. Even after 6 years, I forget to check sometimes and have to do a weird hop to avoid her. We have dark wood floors, and at night, I can't see her. I do a slow shuffle calling out her name every few steps because she follows me everywhere.

When Leo moved in with my daughter she did a little research and thought he was a Russian Blue also. The vet she took him to said he never heard of the bread so she never thought of it again. I'll look a little more into that. Thanks.
 

Vball91 - Thank you also. Too bad we don't have eyes in the back of our heads, huh. lol  At night I do the same thing!  In the morning though, he has a lot to say so I have no worries of where he is then. He gets it all out then and the rest of the day he doesn't say a word.
