Hello, hopefully someone can help. One of our cats at the barn is very pregnant (accidental breeding) I do not know how far along she is but I can say she is VERY large and waddles. She has soft stool, not diarrhea. Her anus is very red and swollen. Today I noticed her in her nesting area I made for her licking her bottom end a lot and would get up move around and continue this process. She eats normal and drinks normal. Has had no change in attitude other than being more than affectionate which is very rare for her. I was wondering if this has anything to do with the birthing process or maybe she has something wrong with her? She is not distressed or acting uncomfortable in any way. I hope someone has some advice on what we should do, I tried calling the vet once I noticed her bottom all swollen but they had already left for the day. Any advice is appreciated!

Could she possibly getting ready to give birth? Is there any discharge coming from the area? The vag opening is just below the anus which I'm sure you know.

Perhaps in her eagerness to get ready for birth she is licking too much?

Can you get a photo?

Honestly, if she is not showing any signs of distress, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you still concerned in the morning, call your vet and see if he can have a look. ;)

I agree with Levi.  She is certainly nearing now. Good her poo is rather rare, it wouldnt be pleasant with a swollen and sore anus otherwise....

Has she been dewormed recently?

Good luck!

My cat just yesterday had her kitten (yes only one and no she ain't having anymore her stomach is soft) and she did that alittle before she had her baby and then she gave a horiffic meow which jolted us awake (she had it when we was half asleep) and then mewing and we didn't know she was pregnant but are doing fine. I called a vet to make sure that it was normal and they said if its the first mostlikely as long as she doesn't seem stressed or uncomfertable or anything then don't worry.
