My 2 kittens, Indie and Noah got neutered today, they are 5 and a half months. Its been a busy day, I dropped them off at 8:30 and went back to pick them up at 4:00. I got them and brought them home and when Noah got out of the carrier he had this whitish blood covered piece of tissue hanging out of where he was neutered. I called the vet back and had to drive back to the vet with Noah and the tech looked at it and tried to poke it back in. He didnt like that one bit. She took him back to the vet and I guess he poked it back in and said it was the stump of where he was neutered and said it would be ok. Has anyone else had this happen? It really scared me and I'm hoping it doesnt become infected because I know he will groom himself and that area too. They gave me some pain meds, Torbutrol 1mg. but they dont seem to be in any pain, they act fine. Not sure if I should give it to them or not. They are so happy to be home!

There's no place like home
Congratulations on taking care of your babies and having them neutered! I have never seen that in any of my males, so can't offer any advice other than to keep a very close watch on it. If it shows any signs of swelling or redness, get him back to the vet right away. You did the right thing when you brought him back to the vet in the first place - do you trust your vet?

Hmm.I've never had that happen on any of mine either.Keep a close eye on him and if it starts to look the least bit odd or he acts like he doesn't feel well, take him back to the vet.
As for the pain meds,I have never gave any to any of my animals that I have had spayed/neutered.

If the vet administered pain meds there was a reason. I would give it to your cat following the directions on the bottle. Cats are very stoic when in pain, sometimes they even purr! I don't know what to tell you about the loose tissue hanging. I would suspect the vet made an error and didn't stitch him up right, but then that would be a guess on my part.

It wasnt my regular vet, I should have went to her, but money was an issue this month and they had to be neutered and with 2 to get done I saved quite a bit going to this one. I have used this vet before also but not for cats. Noah and Indie seem to feel really good. They ate their dinner and used the litter box, etc. Last year when I had Ta done, he was really groggy and not so steady on his feet but these guys really seem like their old selves, nothing out of the ordinary. I will keep a very close eye on them though.

If you are really worried about him grooming himself you can get an E color at Petco or the vets.
This will keep him from disturbing the stitches.

No they dont have any stitches. They are doing fine too, back to normal. Chasing each other around the house and playing as if nothing happened to them.
