I couldn't resist signing up, as the idea of being able to chat with people who love cats as much as myself was quite alluring! Plus, I have some very important questions, that I can't seem to find any up-to-date answers for via google - all seem to be yeeeears old, and I know how much things can change in that amount of time! D:

Anyhow, I should probably give a quick introduction! Hi, my name is Harley, I'm 20 years old, and I have a soon to be approximately four-year-old cat named Loki (The Kitty of Mischief! xD) who lives with my parents. I recently moved to Texas to live with my husband, and at the time couldn't bring my lovely biebs with me. )': (also, no reference there to Justin Bieber, it's just what I've called him since forever!)

So, yes! Hello to all, I hope to engage in many conversations during my time here. (:

My main questions: what all goes into flying a cat alone? Is it safe? Does anyone have (recent!) experience with this? Also, of course, heh, what forum/sub-forum would these questions be appropriate for/garner the most response?

Thanks in advance! :D

Welcome aboard!  Are you thinking about your cat flying to Texas without you, i.e., unaccompanied?

Here is a thread about flying with your cat (health section) and here is an article about traveling with your cat to get your started.
Thank you! :) Yes, I am thinking about flying him unaccompanied, as there isn't really any other feasible alternative. I'm not sure when I will next be in Delaware, and my parents definitely won't be coming out here anytime in the near future, as they have a newborn, and generally wouldn't have the money for such a trip.

AJ:  Hello and thanks for the welcome! :)

In this case, you really need to check with the airlines to see if this is possible, and what hoops you have to jump through.  And how much care and attention they give to an unaccompanied cat (versus minor child).

Personally, I'd  be scared; I'd want the cat under my seat, not in cargo.

Welcome to the site!:wavey:

I have never flown my cat unaccompanied but I have heard of pet airlines that will fly them unaccompanied. I have also heard of breeders who ship their animals, maybe contact one to see what they recommend. If not there are transportation services that are on ground. Ground might be a safe way to transport unaccompanied, just because someone is with your pet and able to monitor them.
