Sooo, it's been a while since last been on here, very busy. So mum,dad & 6 kittens are doing greats. Daddy is now fixed, mummy has her appointment in 4 weeks & kittens have their appointment in 6 weeks. I had slight issues with getting them moved from my sofa onto a nest on the floor - mum is too pampered & spoilt! Haha, but I've mastered that. Soo, the advice that I need is.... They are nicely pottering around the lounge, but at what stage do I introduce food & the litter tray?, I've tried rubbing a little food on their paw for them to get the taste but they weren't interested, am I expecting too much too soon?. Need a little guidance on what the next steps are. Also.... I don't think Willow (mummy) likes that they are active, as when they cry or sometimes even toddle past her she paws them gently then pulls them in & bites under their neck, I've done some research & apparently it means that she is telling them to keep still, but sometimes she does it & it looks very harsh, do I intervene or not?.

Here are some photos

You can begin with both at about the fourth week.  Make sure they have shallow litter pans (non clumping litter), and shallow food gears...  You can lay in a tiny bit wet food, or mince meat, in their mouth...  and so on.

But essentially you can let nature take its course, ie, they are following moms example, when they have matured to be curious on that... And they normally are...

The key is shallow plates, so they can easily reach.  Count they may swim in the food the first times...

Mummy correcting them rather harshly is quite common, so dont worry.  You can try and calm her a little with friendly talking down, but if she isnt going into extremis, you dont need to.

It is only when she is really high stressed she may go into extremis (yes, even be dangerous to them)

So, moms are stressed when kittens begin to be mobile, it is classical.

By this reason make sure she isnt stressed by outer dangers. Visits by dogs she doenst trust, shouting children etc...  At the same time, it is good children DO visit them and play, so they get well socialized. So it is necessary to arrange the visits so mom is not stressed... You being there and supervise the visits, so she knows she has your support, for example.

Good luck!

Thank you Stafanz. Yeah they have walked on the plates a few times then looked down & flicked their paws lol. Yeah we have a shallow litter tray with non clumping litter in, next to mums, is that okay? (They are in the same room).
Yeah we have done that on one occasion, when I thought she was been too harsh. We don't have children or a busy house, just me & my partner, we have stopped visitors for now until they get a week or so older & know their surroundings well before introducing supervised visits. I think sometimes she freaks out when they are walking around then looks at me, I keep telling her that they need to fly the nest at some point & get independent & she just meows at me haha.
