There's these three little kittens and this afternoon I noticed that they were living in our complexes carpark. I've called the ranger now and he's going to catch and rehome them, they're only about 5-7 weeks. But to feral for me to catch and deal with.

I was playing with one of them this afternoon. He wouldn't let me get close but I could just scratch his head and he was loving it! He was a little bit more extroverted than the other two

Then this girl who can barely drive ran him over and flattened his body, sadly he was still alive for a few minutes after being hit..

I've called the proper people to deal with them.. And i hope i called in time to save the others. But I'm really having trouble with the fact that I was playing with this boy and within 20 minutes he was dead. I feel responsible, and I feel like I should have protected him but I know there was not much I can do. I'm just so upset I haven't stopped crying..

I just wanted to share with someone...

I'm so sorry this happened - one person can't cover all possibilities please don't be hard on yourself.   At least the little kitten got some love right before the end and who knows maybe his little soul will go to the rainbow bridge or return to you someday in another kitty.   Do you know how quickly this ranger will act to catch the kittens?   Feral kittens are pretty easy to catch and manage - if you felt up to it you could get them and keep them in your bathroom till the ranger is ready to take over.   There's lots of people to advise you if you'd like to do this over on the Caring for Ferals sub-forum.

I tried to catch them before he died but I wasn't quick enough to get them because they have plenty of places to hide where I can't grab them...

He's coming at 8am tomorrow and I've warned all the neighbours.

I can't imagine what losing a cat feels like. Because I feel so hurt deep in my heart and I only knew him half an hour..

Thank you so much for your kind words, il try not to be so hard on myself.

Oh yeah they are fast, you can't just grab them with your hands trickery is needed like a humane trap or remotely shutting the door on a carrier.    I'm glad the ranger is coming tomorrow and hope he brings the right equipment.    You can still help by watching out for any kittens he misses or helping direct him to the mother cat if you see her so she can get spayed.

I wish I knew the words to help with the grief you are feeling.    I know it too well.   I actually once tried to save an injured bird in the road and it got run over in front of me, it is an awful thing.  But we hurt so much because we care so much and I think it's better to care too much than too little.    Now I've got to go get some sleep - I should change my name to Insomniac.

Haha thanks a lot you've really helped :)

It would hurt to have to see that I'm sorry you did have to witness that. I get so hurt when it comes to animals.. I wish I was at least a little bit numb to it..

I have to work in the morning so il be able to direct him where to go but that's about it..

Have a good sleep insomniac :)

I saw my Chrissy get ran over in front of me, I'll never get over it, I still 'see' it. I had her for ten years. I too am happy that little feral got a few moments of happiness. We hurt because we care. I'm so sorry you had to see this, it's one of the worst experiences you can go through. I'll be thinking of both you and the babies, I hope they have a better life.

Di and bob that's so sad I'm so sorry, and very sorry you had to see it. Your very strong to speak about it. I think there is a certain type of person that can give all their love to an animal and some that just don't care at all.

Last night when I arrived home from work at 8pm the kittens were still there. So obviously I've been lied to by the shire ranger and he hasn't come. As soon as it hits 8:30 I'm giving him a call to give him a piece of my mind!

One of the things that upsets me so much is he says its not an "emergency" so he has to do his other work first.. Kittens dying is an emergency to me..

Well it took me half an hour to get through to his department and he wouldn't even talk to me (obviously he knew I'd be angry) and I got on to some girl that said that there's been a dog attack another dog so he has to look after them because its more important than dying kittens.

Losing faith.. If they are still there tonight il have to catch them and hold them in my bathroom over the long weekend.

OH how utterly painful to witness when you were trying to befriend that little one :rbheart: I am truly sorry to hear this but thank you for trying to help these kittens. They all need to be trapped and rescued or the others might find the same fate. Loving these little creatures can be so heartbreaking at times. :bawling: You have a good heart and there was no way you could have predicted that would have happened. It was an accident, a very emotionally painful one to witness. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

:hugs: Those visions never really leave us, do they.... :shame:

Just major, major hugs to you. I can't even imagine the agony you continue to endure. Again, those visions are so traumatic and we just can't erase them from our minds. So sorry..... :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :grphug: :grphug2:

Guys I have some news. It's good and bad. The ranger has just contacted me saying that he has a visual on both the kittens. He hasn't caught them yet but he thinks it will be very easy to catch them.

Bad side, the kittens don't look like they have much life left in them and even if he can catch them it's still possible they won't make it. I noticed they were very weak a when I first saw them, sadly the mother has left them so they haven't had the necessary milk..

Fingers crossed they survive and find new homes.

Please pray for these little souls. They sure deserve a break, I can't even imagine how scared and hungry they are. There are just too many starving babies in the world, and they are all innocents.

Hey guys last update. Kittens were both removed and immediately rushed to the local vet. They are going to make a full recovery and are going to be up for adoption soon :)

Thanks for all the help and kind words :)
