So to cut a long story short...brought in a stray that has recently had three babies (They are two weeks old today) and Mother appears to be acting quite strangely. It is not something of great concern for me but I would like to hear a opinion on her behaviour. I will explain now;

So babies are sleeping in a box with mother and have a sheet nice and folded for softness with a puppy training pad secured neatly on top. I was told these are good to use as it saves on repeatedly trying to wash dirty sheets and that towels are not good as claws get stuck.

Anyway, things have been great up until the past four days. The box has been in my room located by the one side of my wardrobe (I don't go into this side as it's not quite summer yet) and I have her in my room as it is quiet as I'm at work five days a week and also because I have Tibbs as well and they are to be seperated. The problem is that I have found (When coming home) Fidget is picking the babies up and putting them on my bed and sleeping with them. I thought at first this was because I needed to change the bedding (I have been changing the PTP daily) and this didn't work. I also thought it was because my room could be cold despite the fact I have the heating on, make sure NO WINDOWS in the flat are open at all and the vent is blocked up so I pushed the heating up and still not good enough. She'd meow like crazy and cry at me until I would put the kittens on my bed. I thought this was an issue with the box so I put the box on my bed with the kittens still inside and she hasn't moaned so it appears she does not like the box on the floor. I don't know why and I don't mind them on my bed when there is a blanket down but obviously at night-time I cannot allow them on my bed when I am asleep.  I do not want to move her into another room either where I cannot keep an eye on them.

No problems with them on the bed during the day but what can I do to help mum at night? As she cries continously and I don't know how to help her at ease.

I thought it could also be because she is wanting more room for them as there is one who is already keen to be walking about but then this cannot be the case as she is fine with the box on the bed. I am also concerned with them being on my bed for fear they will fall off but I do have my father at home so he keeps an eye on them but this is still risky and I don't know what to do.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

Moms moving her kittens is a classical sport for cat moms.  You may count yourself lucky there is a working solution, although not convenient for you.

My advice is you lay a matterass on the floor, and sleep on the floor some week.  Pretend you are a guest in a crowded flat, the host had only a matterasse for you.   :)

dont worry,  you will at least immediately hear them falling, good and clear!   :)

(sorry, a classical joke, I couldnt resist).

Lay out  soft things around, filts [edit:  blankets] and so. So if they fall down, they will at least fall on something fairly soft... Your dad looking isnt not enough, too stressing for him if nothing else.

Although very good there IS somebody who can have one eye and one ear open.

Good luck!

I see. So it is a perfectly normal thing then? I was somewhat concerned as I just didn't know what her motive was and all I could think at the time was 'Why, oh, why can't you just speak to me at this time' Lol. It would make life much easier.

I wish I could move my mattress on the floor and sleep there but I cannot as I do not have the room in my bedroom to do that. Last night I put a dozen blankets down on the floor, layed the kittens on it, wrapped the blanket aorund the spot they were in, almost like a long sausage, (And a barrier) blocked where each ends of the blanket was uncase they crawled off and let them stay there with mum. It worked but I'm not sure if it's safe to do, though I have made sure there are no hazards for them.

Thanks for the response.

What if you take the blanket that they are sleeping on (the one on your bed) and put that on the floor?  I guess I am wondering if it could be your scent?

Thoughts?

I did take one of the blankets off my bed and put this on the floor by the box just in case Mum moved them (Because she did that before) and she did and seemed quite happy. I was concerned with that though, especially when I was sleeping but I blocked all around the blanket so they couldn't crawl away from mum and made sure they were warm and it worked. I don't know what the actual problem is as she doesn't mind being in the box with them if the box is situated on my bed. She just does not like them in the box when it is by my floor. I don't know if this is because there could be a slight draft coming from underneath my door but my room is always kept very warm and I also make a roof on the box for them too, especially as their eyes haven't long been opened (Well, they're three weeks old this Monday and have been open since they were about five days old) and worried the light may be quite sensitive at the moment.

I may be just being a silly goose with all these quesitons but I want to make sure there is nothing wrong. From what I can tell this is not a health thing, not at all, but a behaviour thing instead. I said thing too much then, lol.

Its just like my baby Tabby she has always slept on our bed and she had her baby on our bed so its just natural for us to have her the box and the baby on the bed. So it might be that your mama wants to be close to you so you can watch all the time of them growing
