Sorry for the title, but that pretty much sums it up.  I'm very new to all this and I'm hoping down the line to breed Sofia.  What I was wondering is, when she's had her kittens they'll obviously be too tiny to use a litter tray, what happens to the new born's faeces?  Does the mother clean it, or do I go in there every hour and clean it all up?

Does that sound like a silly question?  Sorry if it is.

The queen cleans their bottoms which stimulates them to pass urine and faeces, mum swallows it.  They cannot toilet themselves, they have to be toileted by their mother or by you if they are being bottle fed.

Suggest you do plenty of reading in the next few months!

Thank you and I totally agree with you.  I won't be breeding Sofia just yet, not until I have a much better understanding of what's needed.  Looking at it now, I'm unsure why the breeder allowed me to buy an un-neutered kitten at all, due to my lack of experience. I'm glad she did, but given all that I've read, its not the norm to allow a complete novice to take home a Pedigree Kitten with breeding rights.

I'm going to do my best to get up to scratch with everything and hope you'll all bear with me while I pick your brains and learn on the job.

Thanks for answering.

She did so make the best of your kitten!  Her breeder is the very best person to advise you, including about suitable studs when the time comes.  Persians are often late maturing, so you have some time to get yourself sorted and to start looking for a lad.  With my own kitten I found she carries cinnamon (gene tested her) so I looked for a cinnamon stud and managed to find one with a very helpful owner.  Only snag - 5 hours drive each way!

But a helpful stud owner is priceless as well.  Suggest you go to any cat shows you can and take a good look at the Chinnies especially, but also at the other Persians.  Talk to them as well, by a large cat owners love someone taking a real interest in their cat.

You are very wise to want to learn about breeding before you dive right in! So many people around me just do and say whatever it takes to get their kittens. Then breed them like crazy and call themselves a breeder. I can't stand for it!! I to want to be a breeder, but I am studying very hard first. There is so much I didn't and still don't know! Thank you from a rescuer for doing your homework! :D

I do feel blessed to have Sofia, she's my little girl and I love her to bits.  I'd initially gone to look for a neutered kitten, but she had Sofia that was meant to go to another breeder as a breeding female, but something had happened and she couldn't take Sofia.  Obviously the price was significantly more than I'd initially wanted to spend, but now I have her, I'm well and truly chuffed (pleased).

She was 13 weeks old when I got her and I felt like Crippen when I came to take her away from her mum.

The lady that sold me Sofia has been answering my emails, so I'm hoping she and I can work together a lot more.

Thanks for the advice and for answering the thread, OrientalSlave

Warmest Regards

Adele

Hiya SaveTheMoms,

I was just saying in the post above that initially I'd just wanted a little companion kitten to lavish with love and affection, but things changed pretty quickly and I bought Sofia as a breeding female.  Now I have to pull my socks up and read, learn and do the best by Sofia.

There's so much information out there though.  Hard to know where to start and which advice to take and which to dismiss...hence me coming here.  I was working on the thought that if lots of people here give me the same or similar advice then its likely to be right.

Thank you for answering my thread SaveTheMoms

Kindest Regards

Adele

Thank you, she really is beautiful.   I have some photos up on my profile...but I'll post some here too if you like?

I have a few more pics I was going to put up on my profile, but I've been quite busy helping a friend with his new site and attempting to do a radio show.  Attempting being the operative word haha!

Is there a place on the forums I'm meant to post the pics?

Many Thanks

Adele
