There is a stray roaming around my neighborhood and ended up on my back porch. When I saw the condition of the cat I was horrified because it did not have eyes and had goo all on its face. It also appears mangy looking. I have never seen an animal in such terrible shape. I literally cried. It went away but it is lurking around. I can not afford to rescue it or take it to the vet. I can barely take care of my own animals. It upsets me so much when people do not spay or neutar their pets and let them run wild or dump them. There are so many strays in my neighborhood, I have taken a couple in on top of my own pets, but I can not afford to help any more of them. I live in a small country town where people frankly just do not care. The shelter in my county will kill them and I do not know what else I can do. This poor poor eyeless cat breaks my heart. Does anyone know of any humane organizations that may help?

That poor cat!   My guess is the cat just has extremely infected eyes rather than no eyes but I guess that will still lead to no eyes and maybe no life soon enough
I do understand the torment of wanting to do more but feeling already at your limit.   That doesn't mean though that you can't offer this situation up to some others who might not be quite at their limit yet....   I've found this web page to be amazingly comprehensive for my area - just check "rescues cats" and put your state in and you'll should get a good listing of rescue organizations in your state.  http://nmhpnetwork.bestfriends.org/Partners.aspx Some really dedicated folks might even travel to your town to help you.   Some vets also are open to doing probono work especially for heartbreaking cases like this.  Good luck!

As you cant take the cat in, nor afford to pay for vet help, and cant help him yourself more than some feeding outside*, your best bet is to use the link BastFriend gave you, and do phone around...

If you see him, talk sweetly to him and have with you some smelly good cat food. So he understands he may be at your place, and get food - and wait on the help,  which will hopefully come if you phone around energetically enough.   :)

*Unless you have some relative, neighbour, somebody you know, who you can talk into rescuing and perhaps even adopting this cat...

You must know, the person who adopts him will get his eternally gratitude, a friend for life.

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

Continuing.  If you want to save it, you must help it somebody takes it in, takes it to vet, etc.

And as you cant adopt him, it is "your responsibility "  to find this somebody else who can. A rescue group or a private you know and can talk into it.

Adopted and being a inside kitty, he will manage, even if  he goes blind. Which he surely will if not cared for by vet. and perhaps even if he gets help.

But if you dont have possiblility nor time to seek this help for him, you must help him out the other way.  Dont let him slowly die off this way. It is cruel. At best going to be a prey for some loose dog, alternatives are far worse.

Call the city animal service for example, so they will do the rest.

Sometimes  a bad decision is better than no decision at all, and this is perhaps one of these occasions. If you are unable to help him otherwise.

Tx for caring!

Good luck!

Stephan is right.  It is never easy, but you should at least try to trap him/her and have him put to sleep.  Most shelters will do this on an emergency basis.  Years ago when I was young and broke, I found a poor little kitten who had been hit by a car.  I took it to the vet who said it could be saved but that it would be very expensive.  It was so hard to realize that I could not pay!  But, I decided that at least I had lessen her suffering.

If you just can't do it, call the ASPCA, they will often come out to help.  I had to trap another ill cat last year who could barely walk, but he was too sick to cure.  Even then, I felt terrible about putting him down.  Do this for the humane reason.

Thanks for all the info. Unfortunately, I have not seen the cat again. I have also been sick the past few days so I have not been able to go out into the neighborhood and really look. I spoke to my local vet and he said to bring it in if I find it, and if nothing can be done he can at least put the cat down. I hate it, but I know it's the right thing to do. I had to put my own little guy down last year. He got infected with fiv by strays on one of his outdoor excursions. After a year and of half of living with the disease he finally could not do it anymore and I had to put him down ): Well thanks for the info, I will be on the lookout for this poor cat.
