Edward is a ragdoll i rescued he and his brother both have "horn paw" on the front paws (edward is wearing nail caps because 1. he had bite wounds and it seemed to hinder his scratching and opening wounds and 2. i was working on his dog anxieties and didnt want the dog (whos is cat friendly) to be hurt)

they are best buds now BTW

just wondering who else has a case of horn paw in the home? how do yours react to maintenance?  do you have it on the back paws as well?

i have heard lotion can help slow the growth? Edwards grow very quickly while his brothers were not even apparent until some time later both cats are negative for the big F's and cancer (which someone told me once this can be associated with)

Edward has to have his trimmed once every week Nathaniel gets his done every 3 weeks because his are just that much slower.

for those that do not know, no the second claws are not retractable nor do they have blood vessels basically its a lot like a callus.

Both of my polydactyl cats have these on some of their front toes. I don't do anything to them and they haven't gotten any bigger. Truthfully I don't know what to do with them! They seem harmless.

they can get bigger and try to curve back into the paw in some cases on others they get kind of deformed and curl and hit other parts of thepaw. i use nail clippers and cut them close to the pad but not directly off the pad i have started rubbing the paws down in moisturizer  ever so often we shall see if its true what they say ;p

well they dont grow from inside the paw but outside on the  surface like a callus  and form claws so no pain unless they grow to big  you could remove one completely but you would remove skin as well and when the skin grew back the horn paw would start growing again

My 14 year old cat Keisa, has the same thing, its very bizarre but doesn't seem to bother her all that much. I'm just glad to here its not something I should be worried about.

I clearly need a nap...I saw the nail caps and my eyes bugged out, thinking that was what you were referring to. :dizzy:

My older cat has a couple of these growths. I've never messed with them too much, but I do occasionally pick at them when he puts his toe beans on me. I've shown them to the vet and she didn't think anything of it.
