I took notice on Sunday that my 2 year old feral kitty turned house cat wasn't eating her food. By Monday night I noticed how sleepy she was and still hadn't touched her food. I sat with her monday night (yesterday) and she ate about 3 mouthfuls of dry food, and drank for about a minute. Still tired today so I took her to the vet. It's a new vet, since my regular vet passed away :( she had a temperature of 104.7. He sent her home with clavamox (antibiotic) I can't help but to feel dissatisfied with the prognosis or lack there of. He said if she doesn't show improvement in 48 hrs, to bring her back in for blood work. She is spayed, FIV FeLv negative and vaccinated for both as well as distemper. She uses a doggy door to go to the bathroom outside. Any advice, thoughts, experience would be appreciated!

Get her a litter box so she doesn't need to go outside.  Also, get some stinky wet food and water it down (use just a tablespoon or so).  Put it in a syringe and force feed her.  It's CRUCIAL that she get some nutrients in her NOW.  You can get syringes (without the needles) at more pharmacies and feed stores.  You can also add a bit of plain Pedialyte to the mix to help her electrolytes.

Sorry kitty isn't feeling well.  I'm glad you took her to the vets.

She should start feeling better soon with the antibiotics.

It is important that she eat.  Do you have any wet food you can give her (helps with hydration)?  Even baby food (the kind that only has meat and water--no spices, no cornstarch, no lemon).

You mention she goes outside to go to the bathroom.  You might want to pick her up and place her outside at appropriate times--or get a litter box for her--so she doesn't have to expend the energy to do that.  Actually getting a stool sample to be tested (worms) might not be a bad idea.  How long does she stay outside?

Other than not eating and sleeping, any other symptoms like sneezing?

I do have wet food, I also have a syringe, so I am going to try that right now. I have an enclosed area for the dog, and she usually goes thru the dog door into the woods, it snowed last night and there were several pee spots in the snow, although I don't know for sure one if one of the spots was kitty's, it looked like it was scratched at as though it was from her not the dog. I will carry her out there real quick to see if she has any interest in elimination :)

That really bothers me that the vet didn't seem to think that was very serious with a temp like that. I would absolutely start syringe feeding her asap! It's very dangerous for a cat to go this long without food. Usually syringing gets their appetite going so hopefully it will help.

Ok, I put her outside and she took a 30 minute stroll around the woods, and squatted and scratched to cover it up. I gave her 3ml syringe of wet food. I guess I should repeat in a little. In the meantime I found a small pile of vomit foamy, with two strands of grass and some weird stringy off whitish yellow things about an inch long... WORMS? .?? Possibly!

So I called the vet, the worms were identified as RoundWorm which can cause all of the symptoms she is experiencing except the fever. Recommendation is to continue to administer antibiotics and hold off on the dewormer since its not as serious as an infectin tha could be causing the high temp.
Just curious about temps..... Having her in a fabric carrying case with a banket and the heat from the car cranking,,,would that cause a high temp?

No, that wouldn't cause her temp to go that high. How is she doing today?

This all happened today, hoping tomorrow I will find she has eaten some of her food. Would a roundworm infestation cause a fever? The tech said no, but all the other symptoms fit with roundworms.

only an infection can cause a fever, so nope. Hard to say but maybe she's got a respiratory infection or something and that's why she hasn't been eating. If she can't smell her food, she won't eat it. Does she sound congested at all?

Nope, no congestion, no discharge of any kind. She just drank alittle water on her own. I gave her the second round of antibiotics. I hate not knowing. :(

Hmmm, well she's got an infection of some kind, just don't know where. It must be intestinal if she's got worms. I think once the fever comes down the vet will treat the worms. It should take about 24 hours. I know, it's awful watching them get sick.

Poor girl is probably so infested, shame on me for not treating her sooner, knowing she hunts mice. I will Definetly add dewormer to her regular regime after this. I guess I should deworm my min pin that sleeps with her?

Yes, I would do that, deworm the other one. That'll get a jump on any spreading.

The kitty is acting a bit normal today, however still not eating, but drinking lots. I gave her the dewormer tonight. Hopefully that will make a difference tomorrow. She did eat about 3 mouthfuls of dry food. So atleast it's some nutrients and she is not dehydrated. :rbheart:

That is not nearly enough food and she's going to start to develop fatty liver disease very soon! you either need to start syringe feeding her enough nutrients each day until she eats or call the vet back asap. If she develops fatty liver, she'll need to be hospitalized.

A cat that does not eat , drink , or go to bathroom , can die on the 3rd day, take to vet before too late, a vet told me this.

The kitty is eating today! She ate a bunch of dry food in the morning. And again for lunch. Leaping around, seems to be back to normal. If it was an infection the antibiotics worked, her temperature was 101.8 this morning. I also gave her the dewormer last night, so not sure which one helped, but I'd assume the antibiotics.
