Here's the story behind Ms. Kitty...

She's been hanging around the neighborhood for at least a couple years now, taking refuge beneath mine & my neighbor's decks & sheds.  An elderly woman who lived 2 doors away had been feeding her... the woman passed away about a year ago.   Ms. Kitty had a litter of kittens last spring and a rescue group came out and caught the kittens and was able to re-home them but they were unable to catch Ms. Kitty so that she could be spayed and returned.    My other neighbor started leaving some food out for her after the elderly neighbor passed away.   They caught her in a "Have a Heart Trap" but Ms. Kitty got loose when they tried to transfer her into a cat carrier.  She wont go near those neighbors anymore.

This winter was more severe than the past few winters...so I decided to purchase a Kitty Tube Feral Option shelter  along with an outdoor/low voltage heating pad and straw bedding.   It's set up right outside the front of my house amid shrubbery.   Ms. Kitty is obviously pregnant again...and I'm waiting for the kittens to be born and then I will see about getting her trapped, spayed and returned here.   I've been feeding her wet food.   I've tried to give her the better quality stuff...she really doesn't like it all that much...but she loves junky Friskies lol.

I'm not sure if this cat is feral or semi feral.   She won't get any closer than a 1-2 feet away from me...and that is when I'm putting the food out for her in the morning.  I've called her and she came up from the back yard to the front when I put food out one morning and she was meowing all the way.   She meows/talks to me every morning when I set out the food.   Maybe someone abandoned her...and honestly I don't know how anyone could do that to a pet.

I've never been much of a cat person and this is the first cat I've ever cared for.   I would be happy to care for her living outside of my house with the shelter and food set up.   Indoors is really not an option because I have a rather large, rowdy juvenile dog.    I sure hope I can get her trapped after she weans the kittens so that she can have a better life.

Here's a couple pictures that I was able to snap of her thru the door windows of my house.   I didn't want to scare her away.  I'm curious about her breed mix.

 Isn't she pretty?

She is sitting on top of her kitty tube shelter in this pic.

Sometimes she loves to hop up on top of it and groom herself after she eats.

She is a pretty kitty! Bless you for taking care of this cat. Even better if you can help trap her and have her spayed so she can stop having kittens. Will the rescue group be able to trap and re-home the new kittens? I'm like you in that I can't understand people who would abandon pets. I hope that's not the case here. It sounds like she's at least friendly and recognizes you as the food bearer. Oh, and cats can become pregnant shortly after giving birth, so that's something to keep in mind. I would hate for her to become pregnant again before she can be trapped although she can be spayed in the early stage of pregnancy. Do you know how far along she is?

No... I don't know how far along she is and I don't have any prior experience with cats to even make a guess.   I had a chuckle earlier today...There is a chain link fence in my back yard and I was watching her trying to squeeze thru where the corners meet.   It took her 2 or 3 attempts to squeeze thru because of her growing belly :)    I do hope the kitties that she will be having can be re-homed...if not,  I will get them all fixed and keep them here with their Momma.  I will get Momma spayed as soon as I can after she has the kitties.   One way or the other...they will all be fixed and cared for.

Bless you for taking care of her, and your willingness to take care of her babies makes you super awesome. I hope you know, everyone who took care of a litter of kittens the first time really had their hands full. But from browsing this site, apart from the very much  needed, mandatory vet you'll take them to, you'll have all the help you need here at TCS.
There are lots of people here that are experienced with big cat and kitten care.

Keep us posted with Ms. Kitty and her babies!

Welcome to the site! :wavey:

Thank you for caring for Ms. Kitty. She is beautiful, I am partial to torti's myself. Good luck with the kittens and trapping and spaying mom. There is plenty of help on the forums for you too.
