A Question

Can anyone tell me what the picture symbol to the left of each thread means...open envelope, closed envelope, envelope with lines, arrows??????? I feel so dumb asking, but I have been ignorant and wondering for several months, and curiosity has gotten the best of me

My guess would be that a single envelope means an open thread, and if you will look, the envelopes with multiple papers inside are on threads that are more than a page long in replies. But what the envelopes are that are closed or with marks above them, I can't fathom that???
