There is no confirmation from authorities - however, it has been shared with TruthaboutPetFood.com that Massachusetts Department of Agriculture is testing/has tested Evo Cat Food for Salmonella. It is believed some of the pet food has tested positive for Salmonella.

Hope everyone's Kitties are OK

Unfortunately, I ordered 2 cases last night

I'm not sure where Thixton is getting her information. I will continue to look for this but I did find the news release for this, nor have I been able to find anything on the FDA site. Will keep you posted on it. I am sure she will post her findings on Monday. Hopefully with credible sources and information.

Anedoctal or not - soon after I shared this information on Facebook, I received this message:

Carolina, thank you SO, SO MUCH for posting this. You see, I have had several cats throwing up and having various stages of diahhrea(sp) for a couple of weeks now. Since I have been so busy with my husband's heart doctor's appointments and evaluations, I didn't pay as much attention to this as I should have. I finally decided on my own that it just might be the EVO canned Chicken and Turkey adult food that was causing this change in several of my kitties. So I stopped feeding any moist food almost a week ago. Some of the cats have returned to normal stools, while a few of them still have quite runny stools. After seeing your post here, I followed the link and found the information I needed: yes, their EVO cans are in the range of numbers listed. I buy my cat's food through Pet Food Direct and therefore, I have several cases of it on hand...plus another 3 cases on the way to be delivered to me next Thursday. I will turn in a formal complaint and we'll see where that goes. For the meantime, I will NOT feed any of this food AT ALL. Thanks again for your 'heads up' about this food. You may have saved some of my cats from serious problems.
So while this might be only a coincidence, as with everything in regards to pets, I rather say better safe than sorry. If you feed EVO, pay close attention to your kitties.
Mac is eating a bit of EVO as I transition him back into raw, but I have made the decision to exchange the cans for BG and instinct for the time being. The LAST thing I need is for him to get sick. My cans do not match the numbers listed in Susan's page.

BTW - I know this person, it is not just a random one that would post stuff like this just because......

Wow, maybe there is something to this.

My Kitties eat EVO several times per week, but fortunately they have not had any symptoms,

so I haven't checked my Lot Numbers.

I will call PFD in the morning to see if the ones they are shipping now are a match.

For anyone who is interested, these are the Lot Numbers in question (so far.)

15ECM212 and the last 4 digits range from1348 to 1845.

I didn't think salmonella could survive in canned food. . .but Fluffy (who will ONLY eat Evo :/) was having loose stools a couple weeks ago. Now I'm on a different case and she hasn't had any trouble. I thought it was just her tummy, which can be difficult, but maybe it was the food. I kind of doubt salmonella, though, since that doesn't just go away so fast. But something, definitely. I'll have to check my lot numbers.

Natura Pet foods has confirmed a recall for Salmonella on many of their products, EVO included:

I do NOT see canned in there - I do see the kibbles, and several brands affected

Well, the lady at PFD never did call me back regarding the lot numbers, but the shipment arrived today.

The lot numbers as reported to Susan are 15ECM212 1348 - 1845.

Mine are 15ECM213 2133 - 2134.

Looks like my cans were produced shortly after the lot where folks had problems.

These "should be" safe, correct?

Susan has not published any info regarding her attempt at a follow up on the cans,

and as we know, the cans have not been recalled.

Thoughts?

Here is the latest info from the FDA http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm344421.htm Obviously some of the wet foods are involved in the recall due to the size of the container. Don't know if this helps you or not. I hope so!

No, the 4-oz sizes are sample bags of kibble. Cans are either 3 oz or 5.5 oz or 13.2 oz, I've never seen a 4-oz can.

Well, I still have not seen or heard any updated information regarding the EVO cans that some consumers reported to Susan Thixton.

Hopefully the folks' (who reported the issues) Kitties are doing fine now!

Again,

The lot numbers as reported to Susan are 15ECM212, 1348 - 1845.

My newest 2 cases are 15ECM213, 2133 and 2134.

I had been hesitant to feed them, since my lot is so close to the one in question,

but I finally gave in and fed a half can (well nuked first) among 8 Kitties and everyone is fine.

They got the other half last night and still no obvious signs of digestive issues.

Hopefully there will be no further issues with Natura canned products.

EVO 95% and California Natural account for about 40% of the canned that I am curently feeding.
