Hello I have a cat was run over by a car. I took her to the vet and he recommended I inject her with a sedative every 8 hours  and that I give her dexametasona for inflammation and I was told to give her 10 ml oral electrolyte solution every 15 to 20 minutes. I dropped a couple of drops of the electrolyte solution on her lips and she opened her mouth and I gave her more solution. She is laid down and resting, breathing fine. She doesn't move I didn't give her 10 ml as she closed her mouth and when I dropped more solution on her lips she didn't open her mouth. Should I open her mouth and give her the solution even if she doesn't open her mouth when i drop it on her lips? Thanks

Bless you for taking care of this poor cat. Yes, I would follow the vet's instructions as closely as possible. I would open her mouth and slowly squirt the solution into the side of her mouth, not down her throat as she could aspirate.

Hi 683219!

Yes, you can gently open her mouth...I would open the side of her mouth and put in a few drops at a time, allow her to swallow, then a few more.

You must be careful...do NOT put the liquid down her throat...if she chokes/coughs, she might get the liquid into her lungs - that could be really bad.

Where are you?

What kind of injury does she have?
