This message goes out to anyone who has experienced looking after a kitten/cat who has head trauma? Maybe your cat got ran over? Or fell... Im just reaching out to anyone who can give me some advise, as 3 days ago my kitten had an accident and has suffered head trauma, im going to keep this brief as i have already wrote a post about what happened but im jus thinking maybe more ppl will see this one. When i found my cat, he was having a seizure, and since the injury he has lost all his sight and coordination. He is paralysed in two of his front legs and totally unresponsive. He hasn't communicated with us since what happened.. The vet says its a waiting game, and we have to hope for the best. Has anyone gone through a similar experience with their cat. Please help me if you can

I know you are frantic for your kitty to be okay... I would be too
. I really can't even imagine what you are going through right now.
But I think at this point, as the Vet said, it is going to be a waiting game.  Just keep thinking positively.

Sending many healing TCS vibes for your precious little one

Thankyou so much, yes it has been an emotional, and at times, soul destroying journey. But my little man had had a break through... He started taking proper steps today and has been walking round our living room (wobbly but still walking) its heartbreaking to watch as he is still very much blind and is walking into walls and objects, im
Having to follow his every step to make sure he doesnt hurt himself! Also today we have taken him to his tray and he has wee'd and poo'd for first time in three days, and today when i picked him up he let out a little wimper sooo there is definitely improvement :) :)

Our girl, Java, suffered head trauma when she was a young kitten. She was 8 weeks old and I accidently shut her head in the door. It was the most horrendous thing I (and her) have ever gone through. She started bleeding from her eyes and nose and we had to rush her to the E-Vet. They said she had brain swelling and all we could do was watch her. She did not walk for the rest of the day and we thought we would lose her. The next morning though, she acted like it never happened. I still feel so guilty and I think she knows it. She gets whatever she wants and always will.

I think about it daily and I am so diligent about making sure she is not anywhere near the door when we leave. We keep door stoppers on all of the doors on the inside of the house.

I feel for what you are going through and wish you both all the best! Sometimes with animals it is just a waiting game and it is the worst feeling in the world. I cannot imagine going through what you are going through as ours was so short lived but it is great to see that he is making progress!

We are sending you lots of happy thoughts and good vibes as well.

Frappe, thankyou so much for sharing with me your terrible experience and happy ending !!!
It makes me feel good to know that your little girl made a marvellous recovery and im
So happy that she did.
It must have been truely heartwrenching, and i can imagine you would have felt so sad and guilty! Wow azif she was fine the next morning, its so amazing!!!! Has your little kitten not shown any signs of her injurries since?
Really wish my little cub was that lucky, but he keeps on surprising us every hour!
Im trying my best not to build my hopes up, and to accept that if he doesnt recover enough, we will have to say goodbye, but right now i am not ready to say goodbye and i am jus praying with every bone in my body that he makes a recovery and we see that goegrous little character he once was.

If he's up and wobbling around, that seems like good news to me
.  At least he's not just laying there anymore.  And his bodily functions are working.  So far, so good.

More
for this little one.

She has not shown any abnormal signs since it happened and she is over a year old now. Everything checked out normal on her yearly checkup as well.I think that your little boy is on his way to a happy ending too. If things are improving and he is starting to get back some motor control + his bodily functions are working, then he is a fighter! All you can do is be his cheerleader and hope for the best. I truly thought that Java was going to die when she started bleeding from her eyes and nose. It was SUCH a scary sight and I still live with the guilt to this day. But she surprised even my vet.

The fact that your guy is getting better and not worse is good news. I would think that if he was not going to make it, then he would slowly get worse. I will keep you in my thoughts and pray for your kitty tonight. :)

*Hugs and Happy thoughts*

Sincevyou did not see her before the seizure (did I read that?') It could br so many things. A neurological problem? A tumour? Did your vet Do a scan or recommend one? Or hr could yes have hit his head or have something fall on it? Guessing is hard. Only diagnosis will tell you! It is good he is walking well again. I hope it is nothing too serious and even if he lost some function, he vvcan cope. Cats unlike humans dl not get too upset with what see as "disability ". They learn to live with it so much better than us. I highly regimens the books about Oskar and Homer. But really "I hope all wiillcreturn to normal!!

Thanks for the comments again really appreciate the advise. He seems to be getting more alert by the day. Hes walking around a lot more and wanting to explore, but still he is walking into walls and objects ect. Today we had another little break through he made the clearest and sweetest little meaw, so he can still communicate with us :) :) and to test his vision we moved a tie along the floor, and just like his old self, he followed the tie with his eyes !!!!! then began to chase it and bite it, so he must be able to see to some extent surely? I noticed today that one of his eyes is blinking whereas the other eye was wide open .. Possibly he can see a little bit out of one of his eyes.
abisiobhan, the vet was convised its head trauma and advised me we can have an MRI scan to distinguish the problem, however these facilities are not available at my vets so we would have to travel and they are extremely expensive. I would pay for one tho as its fristrating not being able to know what damage has been done and how severe.
Atm im taking it step at a time. Hes very frustrated we his situation
And his little tail is constantly wagging when we let him walk, however when we give him cuddles iv noticed it does stop, still no purrrr but things are looking up for sure!!!
One thing that is a little worryin is that he hasnt been to the toilett all day and we have been feeding him recovery food from vets (mashed up on a spoon he eventually licks it) and milk (through shringe) soo jus hoping he does his business tomoz else il b worrying !
Will keep u guys posted xx

Is he still improving more and more?  Sounds like your report from yesterday was VERY good
, except for not "doing his business"  Has he taken care of that yet?

Hes improving more each day !! He is now meawing, and this morning when i was holding him tight in bed he started to purr, very quietly but still a purrr !!!(his tail was still wagging at sane time tho, not sure what tjat means?)
He is now walkin around lots and is getting more confident with it, although his back legs arnt faced the right way (he has a little wiggle) and he still seems blind, also he still hasnt used his tray in two days :(
I have now got a large sized cage to keep him in for extra rest and so hes safe during the night, i left his food ball in there and this morning it was empty so he can now eat independantly, although he prefers to be spoon fed! Its an absolute mirricle, and to think we was advised to put him down!!

Hi Sim1.  Thank you for your post.  Just today my little Jelly Bean (11 weeks old) either fell off the cat tree (5 feet tall) or was bonked rather hard by the recliner.  I too won't go into details but we have

him back home.  He was given IV fluids and pain meds which should be wearing off in an hour or so.  We got back from the ER Vet around 3 and as it's now 10:30 he's sat up once or twice but doesn't want to eat.

He purrs if I pick him up and hold him then he goes back to sleep.  I'm hoping for the best.

Thank you for sharing your experience and the followup emails from everyone.  I feel a bit more hopeful for Jelly Bean.

Terri

Hi everyone. I discovered this site after a terrible ordeal I had with my kitten after only having him a few days. I have had a lot of struggles in my life the last few years and the only thing that keeps me going are my animals and my kids. I recently got a kitten that is the grandson to my cat. I was taking good care of him and keeping him safe and all that, last night I was cleaning my sons room and sitting on the floor going through baskets and playing with him at the same time. Well my husband walked in and my older kids were running up and down the carpeted stairs that has a door to the stairs and left the door open to the stairs.. As my husband went up the stairs I guess the kitten went up a few of them and I heard him pick the kitten up and talk to it and give it kisses.. I thought nothing of it really as I figured he would bring the kitten back to me. No.. Instead a few minutes later he came back down and then a few minutes after that I heard him say "hey guys the kitten fell down the stairs" (we have hard wood floors mostly besides one room and the stairs).. I jump up and see him holding the kitten and it must have just came too. As it was holding it's head back and doing this terrible meow. I thought it's neck or jaw was broke I went into total panic mode and was running to neighbors and was about to call 911! Total melt down. After a few moments I guess it tried to get up but was panting and trying to walk but was very wobbly.. I rushed it to the vet hospital mowing I had no money for the care it might need.. It was clearly head trauma and they wouldn't even begin care until I had about 2,-3,000$ as the treatment was extensive. They had no answers as to if I should wait it out or what! I was so panicked still. People were telling over the phone to bring it home and see what happens but I couldn't deal with it I wanted it to be in medical hands as it was starting to vomit. I am gonna cut to the end here.. They told me since I didn't have the money to treat him I could euthanize him or sign him over to them where they will treat him and adopt him out privately or had him over to the Humaine society and I could never find out what happens to him as I would not be allowed to make any inquiries about him. I was devastated. I told them that I could pay throughout the week. If they would just start treating him.. I ended up sighing over custody cause I was so desperate for him to get this specific medication for brain injuries they stated could help him. I am literally sick today as I want him back so bad and my 10 year old has been crying and I feel so bad that it happen and I feel cheated that I didn't have the chance to pay for it myself so he could stay with us. I told them I would set up a gofund me page and pay out of pocket also I just needed the week to do it. I went over the details and made them promise me they wouldn't just euthanize him and would give him a fighting chance. They did promise, but I don't understand how they would be willing to take on the cost themselves rather than work with me. I was such a reck I could hardly drive home.

I am so sorry about this happening to you and your kitten. You did the right thing to get the care he needs; it is awful how they will not let you follow up on his condition. I pray he recovers and finds a good home and  that you find some peace.
