Hi everyone!

I'm definitely a neurotic pet owner, so you'll probably be hearing from me quite frequently
My parents always had cats growing up, but I never worried about them because I figured my parents knew what they were doing. Now they have my own I'm totally paranoid

I've had my 8 year old, overweight kitty for a little over a month. One thing she's done ever since I got her that I never really thought anything of is this: Sometimes when I pet or scratch her back near the base of her tail, her rear end will sway to and fro. Sometimes it'll flop over and then she'll get back up. She doesn't really jump to high places, but I chalked it up to the extra pounds and her age. She doesn't normally run either, other than when she's playing tag with the other cat. She's been eating and drinking very well and doesn't seem to have any problems with peeing or pooping. I started switching her over to Wellness Lite a week ago, and she seems to be more energetic than before (she's been jumping all over the couch and the tables). She sleeps a lot, but I figured that was because she's 8 as well.

She's going to the vet next Tuesday to have her teeth cleaned, and they're going to do blood work before they do, so hopefully there's nothing wrong with her. I was just wondering if anyone else's cats do the butt-flop
My parents used to have a clumsy Persian who always fell off of everything and did the butt-flop, but we got him out of a pretty bad abuse situation where he very well may have been a bit brain-damaged. He was the cutest thing!

If anyone has any input, I'd be very greatful!

Thanks a bunch!

So far out in left field I got lost
The Sammycat will do this. He is a special needs kitty. He was born with no tail and about one half to three quarters of an inch of his backbone missing at the end of his body. The vet has said that he will always have the nerve damage that was caused from this when he was born. Right now I have him on a diet to get some of the chunk off of him and he is not a happy camper
at all. He wants his cookies!

Yeah, I thought my cat was alright with her diet food, but now it looks like the skinny cat has been eating her food (why he'd prefer lite food over regular is beyond me). I'm less concerned now than I was when I posted, however. I was wondering if maybe she had arthritis or something. I was definitely wrong about her not running!! I just gave her about 1/6 of a can of Wellness wet food and she's been running around like a maniac! She hasn't done the butt-flop since I gave her the food either. Weird... I'm perplexed! I guess the food is magic butt-flop stopper!

Oh yeah, another thing she does is when she's playing with the shoelace (her favorite toy), she get up on her hind legs and then fall over on her butt. It's very cute, but I hope it's normal

I need to get the Sammycat some of that Magic butt-flop stopper food
Lol! I'm not sure if it'll work with nerve damage, but it was the turkey and salmon one if you want to give it a shot

Everytime I go to type "butt-flop," I type "butt-slop" instead. Ewwwwwwww!!!
