How far is too far?

As you some of you know, I am a Representative of Pagans Against Animal Neglect. Recently, another member of PAAN brought to our attention, a group called "Killing The Animals". She wants this stopped and the group to be dropped.

I checked out the group, there are 38 members and hardly any activity. Its been up since 1999 and only 29 messages posted. To me, this is meerly a sick joke and others see it as such.

I ask you now, how far is too far?

Should we take action against this joke? Or should we let it lay? From evidence I've seen, nothing has happened about going out and murdering animals, only talk about "Animal Activists".

Does our Freedom of Speech apply here?

As I am also a member of PAAN... I think something SHOULD be done about that sick group even though there is no activity now, in the future they may gain some members and become a formidable foe.... Animal cruelty(killing) should never be advocated for by anyone or group thus, they may be stopped... I think if they are on Yahoo groups they maybe violating the TOS also.

I would just watch them. If they've had such little activity, chances are they're not up to mischief (or worse). However, if there gets to be more activity, I would report them to Yahoo as a TOS violation, which I am sure it is...

Now before I say anything let me state up front that I in no way support cruelty to animals. I've been vegetarian for almost half my life and I can't watch someone eat a rare steak without getting queasy.

Freedom of speech is one of those things that cuts both ways.

There are morons out there with something to say and no matter how disgusting, moronic or close minded it is they almost always have to be given their right to prove just how asinine they are. The KKK(a perfect example of disgusting moronic a@@es if there ever was one) gathers in front of courthouses all over the country to have their say, and no matter how STUPID their ideas are we legally have to let them have it.

On the bright side freedom of speech has allowed truly amazing things to be accomplished in this country.

In this case I simply don't know. There are restrictions to free speech, it's just a matter of finding out if these jacka@@es are legally across the line. In either case I'd report them to Yahoo. Worth a shot anyway.

I don't know to much about freedom of speech . But IMO this is really sick .They should not be aloud (sp) to post that open at all , that could give people bad ideas . And who is to say that they don't send email to each other to plot something .That may also be just a forum to meet more people to be part of killing animals .

I would keep them under observation.

I would just keep an eye on them!!! Sometimes it is best to leave a sleeping dog alone - action against them might just create the very thing you are trying to protect against.

I think you've hit the nail on the head!

I also think you should just keep an eye on them. It's best to pick your battles and if they aren't doing anything and are pretty inactive then I would leave it be rather than upset them and make them actually do something just to upset you even more.

Yeah, we should keep an eye on them !
When the time is right, we should struck them off !!
Afraid that they might be cancerous ...
Remember, everything (mostly) starts from small !!!

i'm going to agree with what appears to be a forming majority of opinion; watch them, but don't start anything right now. you may give them the fuel and attention they need to mobilize. this could be like "bonsai cats" and really just somebody's idea of a joke, and while offensive, i do believe you would be infringing a bit on free speech. let this one go.

blessed be, Sylent! (i'm taking a little bit of a risk here and assuming you're Wiccan i hope i'm not too far off!)

Thanks Amanda (Merry Meet! =)

Though I am not Wiccan, I am a practicing Witch. So the Blessed Be works just as well. =)

Just to give everyone an update, some members went ahead and complained to Yahoo! and they were given the reply of something along the lines of "They are not breaking the TOS, so their group is fine."
