Please help me. My 5 month old kitten has suffered serious head trauma. We didn't see what happened but think he has jumped and banged his head somewhere or maybe our big dog has accidentally stood on him :( when we found him he was in a state of shock having a seizure! His body was convulsing and his jaw was locked open with his tongue hanging out. He had diareea and was breathing like he was having a panic attack, his eyes were dead and he was trying to move but all his legs weren't working, it was as though he had spinal injuries and couldn't straighten his back. When we saw the vet we was told he was suffering from a severe head injury. Two days later, and our kitten is unable to walk, he is paralysed in two of his legs and struggling to move. He is in and out of consciousness and not at all alert. He has not cries out in pain, meowed on purred when we comfort him. His tail moves ever now and then and he has the ability to lift his head up from time to time but he looks blind.
It is tearing me and my family apart. Does anybody have experience of this or anything similar happening to their kitten or cat?
So far i have spent 200 in two days for vets bills. I jus want to know what chance does our little man have of leading a normal life and if its worth nursing him. Will he recover? Please help me i am in bits.

Have you rung the vets back to see what they think?  And did they give you a prognosis?

I'm so sorry to hear about this
, but I'm sorry, I have no advise on what to do.  This one is definitely for the Vet, in my opinion.  I agree with Oriental Slave, in discussing prognosis with the Vet.  Will he have any quality of life?  Does he respond to your voice at all?  You said he is not even purring...usually cats will purr to content themselves when they are hurting, and, of course, they will purr when they are happy.

Is he eating and drinking, since he is in and out of consciousness?  Poor little guy!  Again,  am so sorry

About 2 months ago our roommate who weighs about 250 pounds fell down the stairs and landed on my 16 year old cat that only weighs about 5 pounds. When I found her she was huddled in our basement corner with blood coming out of her nose and ears! We rushed her to the vet and she thankfully had no broken bones but took most of the impact with the left side of her head. The vet said it had to be a waiting game on if she would pull thru or not, so with her age we decided to take her home and make her comfortable! The first week was so hard to see, she had a hard time eating because she would drop the food when she tried to pick it up, we took her back in to the vet and they did some more tests. It was determined that she has lost sight and hearing on her left side they told us that hopefully after the swelling decreased she may regain function but they didnt know how much. It was a VERY slow process but eventually she was back to moving around normally and is back to eating her hard food with no problems! She never regained vision or sight in the left eye and ear but has resumed normal life! So hopefully as time goes by and your kittys swelling decreases he will start to improve. But it takes along time and you truely have ro trust in your vet! Good luck and hope it all works out!

Thankyou so much for the amazing response. I am new to this site and was unaware i even had comments. Well our little kitten is showing signs of improvement, his eyes look a lot better (although they are still not responding) and he can now pick his little head up and move it all around. He is getting stronger and is occasionally trying to walk, his two front legs arnt working properly and he is ending up crawling on his elbows, but [email protected] moving fast and we really have to keep an eye on him for banging into things (as his vision hasn't yet come back) we took him to the vets again today and she was really impressed with his progress. She advised me there is a chance he may not improve to how he was but also that he could make a full recovery.. I guess its just a case of waiting. If anyone has had similar experiences of caring for a cat with head trauma i would love to hear your story. Im not giving up on my little georgie, he is so strongly loved and if there is a glimmer of hope then what have we got to loose in trying our best?

Mrsgreenjeans the vet advised me that georgie has suffered severe trauma
And has giving him a number of medication to help ease the swelling. My vet assured me that there was no spinal damage, the damage lies in our kittens brain :( but with him only being 5 months, he has youth on his age, so i have been advised to nurse him for the next week and hopefully he may begin to regain his senses. Its jus heartbreaking to see. We have been feeding him through a shringe and he seems to be enjoying it . We took him to the cat litter tray and held him up and he wee'd which shows me he must have understanding. Im so not giving up on him, jus praying the improvements continue for our little man :)

This is a happy update to all you lovely people who took the time out to give me advise when i needed it the most.
It will be four weeks on wednesday since our kitten had has nasty accident, and since the nightmare experience he couldn't see, walk, communicate, feed himself or use the litter tray.... Now he can do all these things !!!!
The main obstacle for him now is his coordination and being able to jump like he once did. He struggles with this but I'm hoping in time this will get stronger! He's began jumping up onto our beds and climbing the stairs, which was a massive breakthrough.. As he didn't go anywhere near the stairs for a few weeks. The BIGEST improvement in my opinion would be his eye site, this was the one thing that really worried me and deeply saddened me the most, but I'm happy to say his vision came back too :) although his pupils don't follow things like they did before, he can now chase objects and can definitely see to some some degree which is truly amazing
If i have learnt anything from this horrific experience it would be to never give up, no matter how bleak the chances may seem, and even if the vet seems doubtful, if there is a glimmer of hope then use it !!!! Miracles can happen, my Georgey has proven this xxxxx
