Cat's Not Eating

Hi there. I need anyone's advice. My cat, a domestic short hair (street tabby cat), suddenly loses his appetite and it's been for two days now and he seems like sleeping all day and just wake up to pee/poo. He's getting thinner and his tears stain is getting worse rather than before. I'm afraid if he will dehydrate or anything. Yeah, I've recently changed his food entirely (without the step by step) which may be the cause but still, the wet food that I bought for him like usual, does not make him interested at all. But just now, I bought the kibbles he is used to but still, no luck. He just looked and went back to his all-day sleeping. Anyone know what should I do? Other than visiting the vet because I don't know any good vet in my area. And I'm planning to bring my cats to the vet in the other district next month for vaccinations which I can't afford to do right now. So, maybe an instant advice such as any type of foods that cat's can't resist? Thanks in advance!

Sorry your cat is not feeling well.

Sounds like your cat may have an upper respiratory illness--what are the tear stains from?

Is your cat indoors only, or indoor/outdoor.  Is he peeing/pooping normally?

Where (country) do you live?

If your cat has a URI, he may not be able to smell food, and if a cat can't smell food, he may not eat. After a relatively short period of time, it's like the cat forgets how to eat.   If a cat doesn't eat, he is at risk for developing fatty liver disease, which can become fatal.

I would give him the most smelly food you can find.  I would mix tuna fish juice or mackerel juice in the food you had been giving him or simply give him some tuna fish.

I think it is important that your cat see a vet today or tomorrow at the latest, either in the district you live in or the one you're more familiar/comfortable with.  I think the vaccinations aren't as urgent as a cat not eating.

Keep us updated.

Thanks for your reply first of all.

My cat is an indoor only cat. But once or twice, he did get away, slipping through the door when we're about to go out but that was only for a few minutes. Btw, he is a 4 months old kitten. He's peeing and pooping normally but not much of pooping like usual, I guess. I'm living in the middle east; Jordan. What I can say about his status right now is he's still sleeping and resting. His body felt much more hotter than usual and his fur is starting to shed. I don't know whether that's the effect of the season's transition from winter to spring or what (because this is my first time living in a four season country). And he seems weak :(

I'll try your suggestion of giving him a good smelly food :) Thanks again.

His fur shedding is probably due to the change of weather.

Him seeming weak, is not.

Add some water to the smelly (wet) food in case he is dehydrated.

Good luck!

Also, if it IS an upper respiratory infection, you could try taking him into the bathroom with you and getting it very steamy n there so he has to breath in that humid air.

With his stinky canned food, try heating up slightly...that will make it even stinkier
.  Not too hot so he can't eat it, but just warn it.  Does he have any treats that he really likes.  If so, you could offer those to sort of get his juices flowing.  Sometimes with my cats that's what it takes before they'll eat their meals, so they get a little appetizer first...sometimes right on top of their "real food".

Please consider taking him to the vet now!!! He sounds like he has a fever and if that's the case he needs medical attention and antibiotics. Never mind the vaccinations because you should never vaccinate a sick kitty anyway so that can wait. Right now he needs to be treated or as one of the others said already he risks getting fatty liver which takes less than 48 hours of not eating and yes, it can be fatal. it's very dangerous!

Sorry to hear this.  I would take your kitten to the vet immediately.  Sleeping and not eating are signs of ill health.  The vet needs to treat your kitten as soon as possible.

He's starting to eat back again slowly. I bought fish fillet that he likes and it works. But it's still not as much as previous time. Should I be worry even though there's a progress? :l

I would put take him to the vet, and put him back on his previous diet right now.  Once he's back to his old self then you can GRADUALLY change his food.
