Ok, 4 babies so far! And get this.....evidently the siamese (or is it pointed? Don't know correct term) male that is supposedly neutered is the daddy!!! The kittens are all a white/cream color...one has long hair and one has a brown "toupee" on his head and a brown tail!!
Here's my dilemma: I put baby number one on the scale, about 18 inches away from Nala. She jumped up and ran over, picked up the baby and went into a different nesting area. She even growled a bit when she did it.
I do think she still has a kitten or two in there.
Should i wait and try again after she's all done? Or have I burned my bridges, so to speak??

Congratulations on your new babies!!! Such a sweet litter, can't wait for more pictures :) I think after she is done and calm you could try again.

Congratulations to Nala!! It seemed to take forever for them to come! So 4 was the final count? I thought she was gonna have more than that. How about sexes and weights? Let us know!

I think she has one or two more in there. The fourth was born at 9:30am. How long before i should worry? Could she have more tonight? I don't know what a safe cut off is for an interrupted labor.
Kittens are all eating constantly...well when they aren't asleep, lol!

Kitten 1 (Tink): 114g
Kitten 2 (Cappucino): 110g
Kitten 3 (Cuddles, aka Morgan): 118g
Kitten 4 (Trump, aka Quesadilla): 124

This is the only one with any color, lol! He has a dark tail and what looks like a toupee on his head, so I call him Trump. My daughter calls him Quesadilla, lol! He was the last born and the biggest. He is also the loudest. LOL!

They actually look like dilute gingers. A cream color. Dilute red tabbies with white? I don't think they're colorpoints by the look of the pics. And the other looks like either brown tabby with white or possibly a torbie with white, the head looks like it may have a patch of red. Gorgeous kitties, can't wait to watch them grow!

As long as she is acting like she is not in pain and is tending to her babies, I wouldn't worry at all. A lot of times it just feels like they have one more in there, when it's swelling from going through labor. Other times momma kitties can have hours or even a day or so in between a few kittens. If she acts distressed, contracts for a long time without another, or has a lot of blood or discharge coming from her (a little blood is normal for a few days) then you'll want to take her in to be seen.

As for sexing the kittens- google pics ;) girls usually look like an upside down exclamation point- lady parts are like a line underneath the booty, while males are more like a colon : and usually the space is a little further apart than the girls.

You can also post pics, that helps too :)

Great job taking care of them!

Oh, ok...thanks for the help!! Didn't have time to look any of my questions up today, as I was in New Kitten Heaven

I don't think she does have anymore in there now. She has not contracted in hours, and her belly isn't as big as it was. There were 4 babies and 4 placentas, and that's plenty enough, lol!

She's eating and drinking, and comes out of the nest for loving when she needs a break from the littles. But if one kitten even so much as whimpers, she is back to them in a flash.

I think the key to weighing them from now on is to keep them from crying when I do it. Good luck with that, right?

I will do a gender check when I get home from work in the morning (I work nights). My guess has been 1 girl and 3 boys. We'll see if I'm right.

I need to research dilute tabbies. The one smallest one has a delicate tabby pattern all over, but it is VERY faint. Just beautiful!!

Thanks everyone!

Ok, I know I'm taking this thread off track, but I just looked up dilute ginger tabbies on google, and I think that is what my 1 year old male tabby is. He has long been neutered, btw, and is an inside cat (Nala was an outside cat before)...so he's not the Daddy for sure, lol!!

Here is a pic of Simba, my boy. Is he a dilute ginger? He is actually lighter than the picture shows....kind of a pale cinnamon color, if that makes sense.

The key to weighing is to do it very quickly in front of mum, and of course to record the weights.  working in grams is easier as there are no decimal points to worry about, and 10g is a nice round figure to remember - kittens that gain 10g or more most days are doing just fine whatever it looks like at the milk car.

Not sure if you can tell all those pale kittens apart though!  If not, you could use coloured paper collars or mark them with food dye.

I also took to taking photos of my last foster litter on the scales once a week and when I looked back at them was amazed at how they grow:

As you can see no problem telling any of those apart.

I also never named foster kittens as they were not staying with me, plus I have always named my cats for their personalities and at birth they sleep mostly and feed.  I've only managed to name one kitten quickly, Errol, and it was obvious when I went to see him at his breeders.  He was a Havana (chocolate oriental), very full of himself, had an incredible amount of energy for his age, and was named errol after Errol Brown, the singer in Hot Chocolate.  It took a bit longer to come up with his pedigree name - in the end he was Snapy Wildthing.
