Matt's claw is bleeding. It was bleeding yesterday, but looked like he'd just snagged it on a string from a blanket and stopped quickly. Now he's bleeding again, and his claw cap( he wears soft-paws) is turned sideways so I have to assume he's either pulled it again or it was worse than it looked yesterday. hubby's at work for another few hours right now-is there anything I should do for Matt untill I have access to a car?

Do you have any styptic or similar powder to stop the bleeding?  I believe in a pinch you can use cornstarch or baking soda.

I just checked him, and the bleeding has stopped on his own,...that sideways nail worries me though, I wonder if I should try to bandage it so that he doesn't snag it again?

If he'll let you--and won't chew it off--yeah, I'd bandage it.

(PS:  in case you didn't know, the adhesive is basically super-glue type stuff, so definitely let the vet remove the soft paw.)

The soft-claw came off on it's own......I've cleaned it with a watered down peroxide, and I'll bandage him up so it doesn't catch on anything-looks like he tore the base of the nail

Horay for Matt!! He had the good sense to pull off the hang nail, and his claw stopped bleeding. The vet said not to bandage it, and he didn't need to go in unless he starts to limp. Just keep it clean, and watch in case he starts to limp or show other signs of pain :)

YAY! So glad he got it off!

I remember when Lazlo somehow pulled a claw off. I didn't know who it was at first - I saw bloody spots on the floor, that looked like blood on a paw while kitty was walking. I examined the cats, and found that on one of Lazlo's paws, he was missing THE ENTIRE CLAW! We rushed to the vet - who said the exact same thing. Just keep an eye on it, it'll grow back in. And it did. :lol3:

Ritz lost an entire claw when a plastic bag (+ carton of eggs) got caught around her foot and she ran trying to dislodged it (Ritz, 0 zero; eggs, 18).

It bled a little, but I kept an eye on it, and healed by itself.  She licked it a lot.

And, I kept the claw in my/her keepsake box.

These little cat injuries are entirely new to me, and I find it reassuring to hear others speak from experience. I had Sassy for about 3 1/2 years, but she was such a dignified old girl that I don't think she ever injured herself. the only time I ever worried about her was near the end when her teeth got bad, and I had to arrange for dental care....
