So Rosie has been on her own for 2 months now(since my dog abbey passed) and my husband and I want a new kitten or maybe cat sometime later this year. We wanted to wait until we are financially set and able before we get another feline( and the pet deposit is 350 big ones!!!) But I'm afraid it won't work out because she is not very friendly towards other animals. Her reaction to other cats or animals is typical growling, hissing and attacking if they get in her "space". I noticed at my old apt when my friend brought over her puppy she really just straight up HATED the poor thing. And with other cats her exposure to them has been at the vet when they got too close to her carrier. So my problem is, is it possible to get another fur baby? Or will she hate them and me because I brought in a "threat"? She was close to abbey, even though she whooped on her occasionally ;) so can anyone tell me if its really possible to own another cat one day!? Thanks so much, hope to get replies soon!

My advice is to let your baby be an only kitty.

I made the mistake of bringing in a second kitty with my RB kitty, Chynna.  I had gone to working 12 hour shifts and I thought Chynna might enjoy a companion, so I brought Abby into the home. She was 4 months.

What a mistake :(

Chynna loved being and only kitty.  She literally stalked and terrorized poor Abby.  Abby tried so hard to be friends with Chynna. She wanted so much to cuddle, but Chynna would have nothing to do with her, and she made it very clear.

A few years ago at the age of over 18 years, I let Chynna go to the rainbow bridge, leaving Abby as an only kitty at age 12 years.  What a different kitty she was!  When Chynna was here, Abby was very timid, and while she would cuddle and play with me, Chynna used to bully her way in, and chase Abby away.

With Chynna gone, Abby completely came out of her shell, because she felt safe and secure.

About 6 months after Chynna went to the rainbow bridge, I brought home 2 kittens thinking that Abby would like a cuddle companion since she had tried so hard to be friends with Chynna.  However, nope!  Abby loved being an only kitty.  Now while Abby isn't stalking and terrorizing the twins like Chynna did her, she makes it known that she is the alpha cat in this house.  I found her cuddling once with Katie, but she tends to be quite assertive towards Spencer.  She runs at him and while he will lay on his side submisively, she will sit and stare him down until I intervene.

So my advice is to not get another cat.  It will only make both of them miserable like my Chynna and Abby were. Let your kitty be an only kitty, and love on her and let her know that she is your one and only.

That's what I was afraid to hear :( I think her problems honestly stems from being in a new environment when it comes to other cats because its mostly harmless clinic cats who are just curious and I'm wondering if she just hates dogs and is unsure about cats? her dislike for dogs is no surprise considering shes a cat lol
but I'm wondering if a older cat would be a problem because unlike most kittens they can be assertive and not be domineered by Rosie but in the same token I don't wanna risk an older cat coming in taking over and making Rosie miserable because I would have to call in Jackson Galaxy!! (for those who don't know he is the cat behaviorist on animal planet on mine & Rosie's favorite show!! We also just moved to a new place and city so honestly she's still getting adjusted and the poor thing just got spayed at a new vet clinic( I know I should have done it months ago but I stupidly put it off and I won't make that mistake ever again!) I just wish there was a glimmer of hope somewhere!

Most cats react like that to a new animal entering their home. I have 6 cats & 2 dogs, all of whom I got at different times and with the exception of one kitten they all disliked each other at first. Chances are if she was friends with one animal she can be friends with another. It will take a while for them to get used to each other, probably several weeks. I'd say give it a try.

Well I actually ended up adopting a dog instead but they get along pretty good now. It was hard at first but Rosie has learned to tolerate her!
