CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!! You can see if she is willing to go into her nest with them. If their nursing then you don't really need to worry. Get weights on them an enjoy! I'm sure someone with more knowledge then I will have better advice! I'm so excited, an jealous :D!!!!

Oh good! That is best for her. Keep a close eye on her! If she doesn't have enough liquid, she will go down hill. Now might be a good time to check out some YouTube videos on bottle feeding. She may not need it but just in case. Make sure they seem professional though. I have seen some that didn't do it right lol.

Not very long at first, if they start to cry an she still hasn't gone back to them, I would take her to them and encourage her to nurse them.

If you don't have a set of electronic kitchen scales that weigh in grams now is the time to get one.  Weigh the kittens at about the same time each day and you should find they put on 10g or more most days.  (grams avoid dealing in decimal points)

Usually if a kitten doesn't gain much one day it makes up the next, but if it doesn't gain or doesn't gain much a couple of days running that's a bit warning sign.  If the whole litter doesn't gain it's a warning the mother may be unwell or simply not looking after them.

How long do you monitor their weight for? Willows kittens are 16 days old today, doing wonderfully but how long do I monitor them for, weight wise? Until they are 6 weeks? Xx

The first three weeks are the most crucial. But you can proceed afterwards too, just to be sure.

If they are too big for the kitchen scale, you can have them in a mixer-cup or something alike.  And weight this cup with them inside  :)

I do them as long as they fit my scales - about 3 weeks.  Ideally you would keep monitoring when they are weaning but you would need bathroom (human) scales for that!  Weighin to 10g at that age should be good enough - .01, 1/100 of a kilo

I also took photos every week of my last foster litter, on the scales each time:

It also looks like the photo of kitten 3/5 in the last week is the same.  Oops!  Kitten 5 was all black, it didn't have a white foot...  He was a sweety, I would have kept him & #3 - the darker of the two torties - if had been wanting more kittens.

I never named them as they were not staying with me, plus I always name from their personality and 8 weeks is just reaching the age when I might have an idea what names to use.
