Got our home owners insurance bill in the mail the other day, and it went up around $100 over last year, which I know is not really that much, especially here in Florida with hurricane threats. Anyway, since I have until May 1 we decided to go to the Triple A to see what their rates are. Our bill from our current company was $1300 --- AAA came up with 2 quotes -- $2889 and another for $4,000. Unbelievable! We'll stick with our current company.

Triple A has to show a profit somehow.  Any time you change companies, you pay a higher rate for several years.

AAA has some weird restrictions, too. I was all set to change my car and homeowners insurance last year when I mentioned having piano students coming to my home. They said the couldn't insure my home, but they would still do the car for a whole lot more than I pay currently. No thanks.

We just switched over to Nationwide a couple years ago and it has saved us so much money. We now have our house and car insurance together and that alone saved quite a bit. We also have total replacement, so if anything happens, we should be able to replace the house.

I forget who my sister just changed to for her homeowners' insurance, but she's had some problems with their previous company. They have a front porch on their house, but they don't have the railing up yet (they just finished remodeling their porch....it's a old house and they're always doing something). Their old insurance company refused to insure them without the porch railing. They have an inground pool with an 8-foot fence that has seen better days and the insurance company wanted the fence replaced. Well, they are going to replace it within the next couple of years, but it's not on their "Must Do Now" list. And really, it's a simple wooden stockade fence with no holes or anything like that....it's just old. PA code requires a minimum 4-foot fence around any pool with over 2 feet of water.....we just have a 4-foot wooden picket fence around our pool. But their insurance company threw a fit and demanded that they replace the fence. Needless to say, they changed companies.

We have our car insurance with Geico and have it with them for many years. Geico goes back and forth with homeowners in Florida. We had them for a few years, then they discontinued insurance in Florida and I'm not sure if they write it here now or not. I may check with them but I'm afraid that even if they have insurance here now, they may discontinue it again. Chances are I'll stick with the current company that we've had for 4 years or so. I love Geico for their car insurance and wouldn't change to any other company at this point.
