Albenazole wont work fully.  Because Albendazole works mostly against tape worms.

Tape worms comes from the prey the adult cats take, or from fleas. (fleas are an inbetween host for tapeworms).

So if the kittens dont have fleas, kittens wont need this anti-tape worm.  Perhaps mom needs.

What kittens may get from mom, is round worms and it is what they are usually dewormed for.  Look after medicines containing Pyrantel, a good anti Round DEwormer. It is oK for kittens.   Or you may find a broad spectrum  medicine.

Panacur is broad spectrum, and is quite mild also for kittens. Panacur is common in Great Britain, so perhaps at your place too?? India has still much cooperation with GB??

If you have access to a vet, you can ask him.  (it is really what we usually do recommend)

Otherwise go to the pharmacy you do buy such medicines from, write up what  they have; the brand names and preferably also the main ingrediens, the active agent.

You can google on it, or you can send your list here, and get help with googling and assessing of the result here by us.

It is important to get some knowledge about WHICH brand to use, as some brands arent so good, may even be dangerous.  These are usually sold prescription free "over the count", for example, in pet shops.

Likewise, medicines for dogs not always works for cats.  Or they need at least different dosage.

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

You need something effective against Roundworm - if you can get Panacur that is fine.  It comes in a variety of preparations.  Milbemax or Drontal would be better for the mother as it covers tapeworms as well.

From a UK on-line supplier of Panacur:
  • Easy worming for young puppies and kittens (under 12 weeks) one tube treats 6kg (approx 13lbs)
  • Cats and small breeds of dog One tube treats 9kg (approx 20lbs) of adult animal
  • Panacur contains Fenbendazole and is suitable for both cats and dogs, including unweaned puppies and kittens from two weeks of age. Repeat worming at 5, 8 and 12 weeks of age
  • It is good practice to worm the bitch or queen a the same intervals as the puppies and kittens, granules liquid and tablets are available
  • An untreated pup or kitten will shed literally millions of infective eggs which are a hazard to other animals and children
  • Safeguards children from Toxocara (Roundworm) infection which can lead to blindness- ask your optician
  • It is effective against many round, hook and tapeworms Such as Toxocara, Toxascaris, Anyclostma, Trichuris, Uncinaria, and Taenia species., and Giardia infections in dogs, and lungworm in both cats and dogs in accordance with the instructions provided.
  • The only licensed treatment of Giardia use with appropriate dosage levels

Apparently, Albendazole is not approved for use in dogs and cats, and, while it has been used off-label for some things, there are some serious side effects and since there are many safer and better options, it's not recommended: http://books.google.com/books?id=g_...X&ei=cLE_UbP2OqrD2QXP-oGYCw&ved=0CF8Q6AEwCTgK

That's about all I could find for info on Albendazole usage in cats! Everything else was for sheep or cows, so that alone is a pretty good indication that it shouldn't be used for other animals. I'm sure your vet is accustomed to treating sheep and cows, not cats and dogs. See if he'll let you return the albendazole for a refund, or maybe sell it to someone who owns sheep.

Keep looking for fenbendazole or pyrantel! Like I said, you might be able to find some in a human pharmacy. Worex has other ingredients besides pyrantel, that's why it's not good for cats.

I would check out Revolution. It's all I use and so far it works great. They have it for small kittens, I think its the pink one. I use the blue on my queens. Its safe for pregnant and nursing queens. And babies get it threw the milk if they are still nursing. I get it on line pretty cheap.

Tx for the tip, Savethemoms.  I had heard good things about Revolution me too, but was not entirely sure how it is for small kittens. Tx for your witnessing.

Revolution is a drop on, a couple of drops behind the neck...  Takes all parasites (fleas too) and most worms.  Almost the only it doesnt take is tape worms. But takes all types of round worms.

Revolution is nowadays prescriptions free, at least in USA, so it should be possible to get online, if you dont have it at your place.

Observe, Revolution may have another name in your country, so google, or send mail to them!

I mean, Revolution may be possible to buy in your country, at your pharmacy, perhaps by another name.

Revolution also works for hook worm, ear mites, lice an ticks. I order mine from pet bucket, just under 30$ for 3 treatments. It has been tested at 10 times the dose without side effects, so it is very safe :) mommas get it just before birth, at 4 weeks and everyone gets it at 8 weeks.

Very useful for people in the US, but the OP is in India.  It would be great if they put that on their profile, I happen to have spotted it in another of their posts.

Oh, pretty much the book just said that Albendazole is not approved for dogs and cats, and has been linked to some bad health problems.

yes mom cats eats a lot. they need much nourishment.

It depends also on what thay eeat.  Cheap dry food doenst contain so much useful animal protein and fats, so they must eat more of it.

Wet food is best.  Ie the food shall contain much animal protein and fat.

Goat milk is very good for giving as extra!  You can melt in some butter in it too.

Goat milk is also good for kittens, if you dont have their mom around.

If salomonella in eggs is not a problem at your place, the raw yellow of egg (yolk) is good as additon.

Have it in this goat milk, or mince meat...

Good luck!

ps. if mom isnt properly dewormed (you are seeking after dewormers, right?!)  so she has probably worms. Round worms and prob also tape worms....  They are of course stealing a lot of food from her. Especielly tapeworms...

So eating much but not going up is possible  indicium of worms...
