Over the river and through the woods...
So, it's around 60 degrees today! Most of the snow from last week has melted except for a few stubborn piles which should be gone by this evening. DH is working and putting siding on the house, and I'm going to collect the last (hopefully) few bags of kindling for the season. I've already started planning our garden and what we need to do to get ready. I even saw a robin last week (in the middle of the snow storm...yeah, I bet he was kicking himself for getting the "early bird special").

So, what is your first sign that spring is actually here? For me, it's the redbuds and forsythia blooming. But, I don't actually trust it until I see lilacs!

My first thought for spring was when the birds outside woke me up a couple of mornings ago.  Plus the weather has been very mild the past couple of days.

For me, it's the light green haze on the trees as the leaves start coming out and the goldfinch males getting their bright yellow breeding feathers.

I look for the buds to start forming on the trees in my yard and then for the Robins.  We've had whole flocks of them in the yard for a few weeks now.  The buds started a while ago; but they are usually around for a few months before we get leaves. I'm so "over" winter.

Lilacs! Love lilacs! When they start to bud out, I always get very excited because the scent is simply intoxicating. We have several lilac bushes planted at the west end of the house. When the flowers start to come out, I open the windows at that end. And then the breeze will lift the scent and bring it into the house and it goes from one end of the house to the other and the entire house smells of lilac. And that is spring to me.

I agree with you, Mooch.....winter can leave now. I'm done.

There gets to be a certain smell in the air and the birds start sounding a bit different. It's hard to explain. We did have a for a bit last week, until it snowed. :lol3:
