For all our female members, have a great day and spare a few thoughts for those women around the world who are worse off than you are. International Women's Day started as a festival in Communist Soviet Union, but has gradually spread through Europe to the rest of the world. It is being used today to highlight the plight of the women and their families who are fleeing Syria and are living in terrible conditions in refugee camps.
But when I lived in Bosnia, it was the day when every woman was given flowers, by her family, her lover or her boss, and was taken out to dinner and generally spoiled. So mention the fact to the men in your life!
