When your kids finally moved out, what did they leave behind for you to store ? Did you finally get that den you wanted ? What did you use that extra room for ? Did you give them a time limit to get everything out or throw it away ? When my son moved to Minnesota 5 years ago he left everything but 1 suitcase and cds he took with him.And when we moved last August we stored some of his things here in our shed and the rest went to his uncles house in their basement.

When they moved out they brought with them the most recent things they owned. Besides the essentials, they brought their computers and collectibles. They left behind the appliances (TV, loudspeakers, consoles) and old clothes with the promise to return for them. They didn't.
So their rooms are still the same, gathering dust.

Our son was a late-mover
.....he didn't leave the nest until several years after he graduated from college. And when he got ready to leave, I was getting ready to move to Harrisburg for a semester to do my internship. I lived in Harrisburg during the week and came home on weekends. We didn't want Rick to be alone during the semester, so DS stayed there an extra six months or so. When I finished my internship and came home, he left the nest.

But he left everything in the nest. We had a ton of his stuff: all his fishing equipment, his sports stuff, his telescope (Ok, I didn't really mind having the telescope; I'd get it out at night and use it myself from time to time). He got married a couple years later and they bought their first home. And still his stuff was in our house. They just bought a new home last year and while they were getting settled in, we took the rest of his stuff from our house down to them. He wasn't real happy about it, but we decided that it was time for his stuff to go home.

When we built our house, we gave DS what was the master bedroom. We then took the other two bedrooms and turned them into one big bedroom for us. So our house only has two bedrooms.

When DS moved out, we turned his room into our computer room/den/ and whatever. We basically tore the room apart....new windows, a new wooden floor, new woodwork. I tore out the old PennState wallpaper that was in the room and we repainted. New closet doors. It has our desks, computers, book cases and a ton of other stuff. I use the double closet in that room for my clothing and Rick has the closet in our room for his stuff and for our Christmas stuff that really shouldn't be stored in the basement.

The first time he came home after he had moved out, the room was already being torn apart. He looked at me and said, "Gee, Mom, what took you so long?!"

(Rick STILL has stuff in his parents' house!)

When my last son moved out I turned his room into the now cat playroom/foster room
He took most of his stuff, furniture ect, so was left with a basicly empty room.
