My 3 cats got tapeworm. I treated them about a week ago with pills. My largest cat may have or may not have ate it in his food. Now a week later..2 of the 3 are feeling and looking so much better. But still my largest cat is getting worse. He stopped eating yesterday, has lost a bunch of weight within a matter of days. Where I have 3 cats its hard to tell if the gross poop in the litter box is his or not. He's still wanting attention like crazy and still very social. He's 10yrs old and never really had any heath problems. Can't get in to see my vet for a week. Is there anything I can do at home to help keep him healthy till he sees the vet? Already got high protein blue wet and dry cat food. Also would it be safe to give him another dose of tapeworms meds?

What pills did you give them?

And ring the vet and tell them it's an emergency, as it is.  Ring round other vets if they won't budge.

I know mine and I'd change vets if they didn't.

You only need to give a one time medication for Tapeworm. Do not give another pill. One dose kills tapeworms. What was the medication? I also would call the vet right away. There are a few things that it could be even a possible blockage but to speculate would be wrong. I think that a call to the vet who dispensed the medication is in order and would be your best ally right now. Please let us know what they say. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Thx very much for your replies. Unfortunately he got worse over night and i took him to the vet today. In my mind it was logical to think if 2 of 4 pets had tapeworm then they all might have it. But ironically he didnt have worms. I used praziquantel tablets for the deworming btw. My baby Gary 10yrs old is now spending his first night away from home. Vet said he's (jaundas) yellow in color, negative for feline leukemia, negative for feline aids, blood work came back normal. Now he's on iv fluilds till morning. I'm goin tomorrow morning with his fav cat food to try to get him to eat. This evening they are doing x-rays to chk for tumors or other probs, then a ultra sound. Not eating has started to affect his liver. Basically gotta find out why he stopped eating. I just hope i get to see my baby again.

I hope you get to see your baby again too!

If he's already jaundice, then he's probably got HL (Hepatic lipidosis), which is what cats get sometimes when they stop eating.  Most likely, he will NOT eat even his favorite food when you take it in to him.  You will, in all likelihood, have to begin assist feeding him for awhile, possibly even a few weeks or more, until he can eat on his own again.   This is not something you can take lightly.  We have had several cats lately with this, and it's an uphill battle, but not necessarily fatal, thank goodness
.  If you search "HL", or "fatty liver", or even "hepatic lipidosis" in this forum, you will find many threads where people have had this issue and  assist fed their cats, some using feeding tubes, some not, some giving additional medications, some not.

But as you said, first they  need to find out WHY he stopped eating in the first place.  Sometimes it's something as simple as a tummy ache or constipation, or even a hairball that starts the cycle.

for your little guy.   Keep us posted.
