I was not too pleased to see the pictures of the ferocious side of cats showing teeth,  yawning is fine, but looking vicious is another story  because I have a problem with the residents here in my condo being afraid of feral cats. To expand that thought and apply it to the "stupids", like many of the residents here,  if certain of those type pictures hit the web on other than a cat site where cat people are intelligent about such things and  understand etc. , it would just reinforce the opinion of those who believe that feral cats are to be feared, captured and killed.  I have had over 6 months of protecting Squeaky and Elton from being picked up by the Animal Control Killers that were hired by the residents of my condo.  I have become disliked because I interfer with the extermination of two of the cutest little guys I've ever known.  You can read about Squeaky and Elton under my replys to the very kind, loving members of the cat site.  I feel privledged to have found your site, I was sheltered myself because I am not necessarily a cat person and only got involved because I saw a little kitten picted up then murdered by the Palm Beach Animal Control killers.  When one of my neighbors called them,  his wife had accidentally run over the leg of a kitten still on mother's milk (I did not know it at the time) .  I was walking Nikki and I saw the truck and walked over.  The murderer  had just picked up the kitten and tried to pick up the mother cat who went after him with fang and claw. I was impressed!  I stepped inbetween and said you may take the kitten (not knowing she was still nursing) if you give me your word that she will not be killed.  And her leg will be taped and she will be brought back here or put up for adoption.  He assured me that she would be taken care of medically, the leg would be taped and she would be adopted.  I called the next morning and discovered that she had been killed- I said you mean murdered-  - I was and am still angry and I said why:  the answer was that there was not one here to bottle feed her.  I asked why they did not advise the person who called originally (I found out that he does not like cats- they replied that they did not have time!  That was the beginning of my involvement with feral cats. Since then I have become their champion even though I have my little Nikki, a minature schnauser.   There is a $500. fine for interfering - I don't care -  I chased one truck out of her and he assured me that he does not capture cats for the very reason  that I chased him out - the anger was apparent etc.  He said he does not want all of that on him but he does catch everything else!   I did not know that you existed - I feel that I have made new friends - thanks I have to run now,  no time to proof read - sorry if I goofed!.  Good Karma to all.  Teddy J

I want to mention: a cat yawning  is usually making a very friendly gesture.

It is very seldom laziness or beeing sleepy, it IS usually connected with friendly greetings.

Possibly also many other types of showing teeths are friendly gestures.
