What did you do with your wedding dress?

Mine is just sitting in my closet. I meant to have it professionally cleaned and preserved but I never did.

I made my gown. I copied it from an original in the V&A museum, from 1864. (I had a Civil War wedding, at least for the bridal party) I also made my Matron of Honor's gown. It's 100% heavy white silk satin. The veil is 100% cotton net, with hand-applied lace motifs and genuine, tiny seed pearls and crystal beads. I also tweaked a store-bought tiara, and wired real pearls onto it.

Since I put so much work into it, I kept it. It's wrapped in cotton muslin, and in the attic.  My MOH gown: she didn't want it; it was tan brocade, so I cut it up to make table runners!

I got married in jeans and a t, but I have them stored in a basket with some other important items.  We had it in house and very small and I HATE getting dressed up lol.

I had two weddings, two dresses hanging in the closet. I can't wear either one of them :lol3:

My dress is in DS's closet in a garment bag.  I also meant to have it cleaned and preserved; but I just never wanted to shell out the money.  Though DH told me to do it several times.  It's laid out to prevent stretching at least.  I like to open it up and look at it from time to time.

Hey maybe if I can go on a super celebrity diet I can put it on for my anniversary in 3 months!

Mine was quite a unique silk outfit, hand-painted by an artist who became quite well-known in the city I was born.  My sister worked for the museum/art gallery there and asked me if I would donate it for posterity, so I did.  There wasn't really any sentimental value in keeping it as my marriage had ended a long time before.

Mine is probably back in the costume shop I rented in from! We both hired kind of old-fashioned outfits for the day which fit as our wedding was held at an old pioneer village place.

I had afull length medieval-style white gown and I did actually get it professionall cleaned and boxed after my wedding. Currently it's in its box in my craft-room closet.

First one? Who knows. I probably through it in the garbage because I wanted no memory of "him".  It was an off-the-rack typical dress, nice, but nothing remarkable.

Second one (yea, there was a second), I went to a place in NYC, bought a rather plain sheath dress and had it trimmed out special by going to a fabric store.  When I left him, I left it behind.  It wasn't worth much and again, didn't want the memory.  But he went and gave it to me in a bunch of stuff that I was picking up at the house at some point.  He actually was being nice, thinking I wanted it.

I didn't even realize it was there until like a year or so later when my current BF and I were cleaning out a closet and I chanced upon it.  Woops!  I think I still have it somewhere. Next time I find it I think I'll chuck it for sure.

I'm not sure why people hold onto their wedding dresses when they divorce.  It isn't like you'd ever wear that one again.  And, once worn, (at least for me) it kind of gets ruined.  I tore the lining of the first one dancing, got stains on it, etc.  Second one was in ok condition, but it wasn't expensive at all so meh.

Yep, mine was stained too (my mom wasted her money getting it dry cleaned afterward I suppose.)  I tossed it in the trash (along with my childhood teddy bear) last time we moved.  Had to be ruthless when cleaning out the closets to  make up for my husband never throwing anything away....LOL.  There is one of each in every family, it seems.

Mine's still hanging in a closet - I hate the idea of throwing it out because it still fits. It's not a long white dress, but a street-length turquoise one with short sleeves. It's in there with all the other dresses I almost never wear.
