Orangie is a five-year-old semi-feral(less so everyday) who we adopted in December. He's been vetted and is healthy and up to speed on shots.

I think I finally know one of the reasons he doesn't like to be picked up - hyper sensitive back from below his shoulder blades.

Almost everyday when he grooms, he lays on his back rolling one way then the other to wash his paws. When he gets up it looks like a 'cowlick' on his lower back - or maybe a 'mohawk'!

He's not a great self-groomer, so I've got enough fur coming off him to make a another cat!

Regardless of his sensitive back, he gets his weekly/bi-weekly grooming - ears, nails, teeth & brushing. He's very tolerant of the whole grooming process - better in fact, than my Roscoe who has been getting grooms since five-weeks of age!

When we get to the brushing part, he does that funny lick-bite routine, so I give him a towel to bite. This week I noticed that the fur on his lower back - in the most sensitive area - has become quite rough and short.

He's on Revolution, so no sign of any parasites nor is the area red or irritated...any thoughts?

It is possibly "stud tail" as there are sebaceous glands in that area and some cats segrete more oil in that area causing some itchy and scaly skin. Sort of like chin acne but on the lower back and base of tail area. The pores get clogged. If he is on Revolution then I would rule out any topical parasites. I bet it is "stud tail" which can effect male and female spayed/neutered cats, not just unaltered male cats. It is just a term they use for that condition. Washing the area with Hibiclens or antibacterial diluted soap will help get the condition under control and clean those pores. It might even clear up on its own. Spring shedding is upon us all!!! :vibes::vibes::vibes:

Hi, I'm new to this site, so apologies if I'm posting in wrong place ? I groom my cats fairly regularly, but noticed today my two yr old cat has a bald patch the size of a thumb in length and width , it does not look infected or sore and no sign of anything else , I have not noticed him scratching either, he lets me touch it so no pain either , I'm just concerned , he is a house cat in day but out all night , his mother sometimes takes a swipe at him , but they usually stay out of each others way , so don't think they been fighting , they are both v placid cats, should I just keep an aye on it for a few days? Is there anything I could home remedy in the meantime ? Thank you
