I love your little kit. You're like a little professional cat midwife! I was wondering, what is the dental floss for?

Lol thanks! The floss is for tying cords when mom isn't doing her job or an emergency when baby needs to be out of the way quickly. I keep two kits, the other has the bigger stuff. Antiseptic, puppy pads, gauze, q-tips, baby wipes, my tube feeding kit, gloves, wash rags, you name it, it's probably in there. I call this little one my starter kit. Its the basics. I give them to newbies who are having kittens for the first time. Like a baby shower gift. I know I'm silly and over do it lol.

Well keep coming back! They will get here, I still feel movement but its slowing way down with her. I got to worried I took her to the vet. I thought kittens were dying. But she said everything looks fine. She thinks its a large litter in a small cat so there isn't room to move. I wanted it mostly to be a surprise so I didn't let her give me too much info. Everything is going fine that's all I need to know, even if it is driving me to the straight jacket lol

Tying off the cord was the only thing I could think of that you'd use the dental floss for. But the advice I'd read was to tear the cord between your fingers to simulate the way a mother cat bites through it. Is that not the best way to do it? Maybe I should add some dental floss to my kit too!

Or rather, to sear off with your nails.

Never ever  use sharp scissors here, blunt scissors are better if you want to feel hygienical.

yh i just used blunt nail scissors, obv gave the mummy cat plenty of time to see if she would eventually do it herself but she left the cords too long so i trimmed them in the end x x

Real cord scissors are strange looking things and are very, very blunt. I always used my fingernails. Surprising how tough the cord is.

Yes I always rip it as well, I had just been told to ty with the dental floss first. ?? I have only had to do this twice. I only wear sterile gloves so I'm not worried about my finger nails. Learn something new everyday :D

So Duchess has milk in all her nipples now and kittens have moved about an inch below the last nipples. Does that mean they have dropped? Who wants to guess how soon labor will start!! And don't say soon lol!

If the cord is torn it hardly bleeds - just a drop or two - and I've always torn as far away from the kitten as possible, without pulling on the kitten.  I've also never worred about what might be on my hands so long as they are clean, after all normally the mother bites the cord and a cat's mouth isn't sterile by a long, long distance...

Duchess is having a harder time breathing today lol. She is almost choking on her belly poor girl! She has been contracting a lot today which doesn't help her comfort.
