Hi,

Just as introduction, my name is Jenn.  I have two kitties.

Carmen is a 15-yr-old domestic longhair (tortoiseshell).  She has been healthy most her life, but was recently diagnosed with chronic chin acne and hyperthyroidism.  She has never been much of a people cat, spending most of her time with another cat that basically raised her when I brought her home at 7 weeks old.  Sadly, this big brother kitty passed last year from chronic renal failure, and Carmen has never really been the same.  Oh, the name Carmen comes from her little orange spot (that looked like a red rose) on the top of head and her incessant meowing like the little diva she has always been.

Wilson is a blue point Siamese mix (built like a tabby, but with Siamese coloring and disposition).  I got him nearly a year ago after the passing of Carmen's big brother.  He was an approximately 3-yr-old stray that I adopted from a local shelter, and he came with lots of baggage.  He is incredibly sweet, but prone to ear infections, has allergies, and an anxiety condition.  So, I spend much of my time cleaning up regurgitated food after he binges and purges his food, and reassuring him he is safe with every unexpected noise in the house (or even neighborhood).  We are still working to get this under control, but proving to be a challenge.  Wilson got his name because I picked him up from the shelter on the day I saw the series finale episode of my favorite tv show (House), where the best friend's name was Wilson.  However, Wilson has two additional alter egos.  Shaq is the big kitty who comes out every once in a while, being a huge klutz of a cat, knocking over things because he doesn't realize his own size.  Chester is showing fewer and fewer appearances, but early on was the dominant personality  - named for the fact that he would obsess about curling up on people's chests.

About me:  I am a graduate student in neuropsychology, trying to finish up my dissertation on immune system dysfunction and age-related mood changes and cognitive decline.  However, I have been teaching psychology as an adjunct professor with my MA degree for the past 20 years (wow, am I really that old?).  We all live with my boyfriend of six years, who was never a cat person.  He grew up with dogs, and cats were more a nuisance that destroyed the neighborhood, according to his parents.  Still, he has become very attached to my furry babies, and Carmen has been in love with him since the moment they first met.  It is a mutual relationship, and I am happy to say he is becoming more of a cat person, though it seems he will never figure out the way to pick up and hold a cat without making the cat look and feel completely awkward.

Love joining the group and look forward to exchanging ideas and experiences with everyone.

Jenn

Hi, welcome to TCS!  It's very nice to meet you.   It's great that you and your cats have made a convert out of your boyfriend.
I'm convinced I can turn anyone into a cat person, if given the time.
