I have a 15 year old cat that has bad hairballs. When she started barfing on the carpet we got her some hair ball medicine which is her
"treat" every morning and almost daily brushing. Lately though it has got worse she will barf twice a day sometimes. We really don't have the money for special food or vet trips (unless absolutely necessary)
having five other cats at this time. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's just a hairball? If she's throwing up on a regular basis especially at 15 you may want to have her checked out. For hairballs though you can use butter or a fish oil.

What do you feed your cat right now? I have noticed that with better quality food, I use Nutro, my cats shed less. I don't know if you would consider this a special food but it might help.

I have to agree that if the cat is barfing twice a day it can't be hairballs as there is not enough time for the hair to accumulate and form them. I would look at digestive problems, especially in a cat this old. Try a better food with less fillers or corn, perhaps even a modified raw diet.
