3 week old kittens eating cat litter. they are peeing on floor and when i put them in cat litter box they eat the cat litter like its goodies :( ive never had this problem with any cats i have. im using the clumping kind but afraid if i switch to the rocks they will choke. they seem constipated their poo is a orange colored which is the color of the kitten hard food but never witnessed them eating it. they also have soft food always available and they have no interest in it.. should i take them to the vet?

Contact the vet at least and ask.

We recommend a non clumping litter when having small kittens, just becuause they often try it to eat.

Good luck!

yes it is safer. it will at least not to clump nor swelling up in their intestines,

yes, they may still eat it a little, as they do try out everything.

Every time I have kittens they try to eat the litter!! Its usually when they are about 3 weeks old and beginning to explore their environment. It always baffles me because they try to eat the litter, but don't want to eat the cat food! Lol... They eventually "get it" and learn to pee in the box instead of play in it.

I would definitely switch to non-clumping litter though. If they eat the clumping stuff if can clump up in their stomach.

yea im definetely going to change the litter one of the kittens were making straining noises when it was pooing. i tried calling vet but i think they were out to lunch. i also checked their gums the two smaller ones were a little pale but they are running around like crazy playing climbing and purring.

they didnt have the cat lax, so i bought the gnc brand hairball paste i hope it works. i forgot to ask the vet if i should use everyday or a one time thing. i also got sum walnut shell natural cat litter. anyone else have any remedies for kitten constipation if the hairball remedy paste doesnt work?
