I lost my little Leo earlier this week after nearly 17 years of him being in the family.  My family took him and his brother Scrapper in from a friend who had been caring for a pregnant feral cat shortly after they were born.  Leo was my my cat and the runt of the litter.  It turned out he wasn't up to eating solid food yet and I can remember going to the pet store in a panic wondering if they sold kitten formula when I realized he wasn't eating.  Both of them slept with me every night and when we got up in the morning Leo used to follow me out to the kitchen with a little meow with each step waiting to be fed and telling me he was hungry!  After 4 fours years as the family cats they ended up living with my brother when he moved out on his own, I was in college and couldn't have them in the student housing.  They lived with him full time, although I saw them often, until this past June when he was no longer able to take care of them.  I took them both to the vet for the first time in about 15 years to have my fears that Leo was blind confirmed as well as finding out the he was in an advanced diabetic state.  I got him on insulin and he perked right up, within a couple days he was back to following me around looking for food just like when he was a kitten.  I knew he didn't have long left and I just wanted to do everything I could to keep him happy and healthy.  I was preparing myself for complications to come up from the diabetes, but it turned out he was hit with a sudden and severe unrelated health issue that has left me reeling this week.

So for my little guy who came back into my life so close to the end of his I hope you were happy for the little bit of time I had you because I really tried to do everything I could.  I'll miss you laying on my feet when you wanted to nap, tapping my leg with your paw when you wanted to be petted, the way you always had a bit of food stuck to you face, knocking over every glass of water I left sitting around and even howling in the bathroom at 4 am every day.  I miss you and so does Scrapper.

(he got into a glass of milk I left on the counter)

I'm so sorry for your loss. Leo sounds like he had a good long life with your family, and he had you to help him and be with him at the end. Rest in peace Leo.

What a beautiful boy! I'm so very sorry for your loss, my heart aches for you. God bless you for taking such good care of him, I'm sure that's why he lived such a long life. RIP little Leo.

My condolences. Even when you know the time to part is coming, it's so hard to say good-bye, and 17 years is a big chunk of your life to have shared. RIP, Leo.
