I have a 7 month old kitten I found her when she was 8 weeks old.  I noticed she does this coughing thing.  It last about 30 second but she does it probably 3 times a week.  She is all updated on shots and I have brough it up to the vet a few times but does not seem to concerned.  Im hoping its not ashma.  Anyone have a cat with Ashma.  The vet said it usually does not come out until the cat is 2-8 years old.  Mindy

Coughing can be a sign of heart problems.  In a kitten this age, it could be hereditary.

I would bring this up to the vet.  It is just a possibility.  Something that can hopefully be ruled out.

Thank you for being such a good advocate to your kitty.

Does it happen at any specific time?  One of mine coughs when drinking from the fountain.  Only then...and always when doing that.  So I mentioned it to the Vet because I was afraid of heart disease.  But she thoroughly examined him and couldn't find anything wrong.  Guess he just can't quite figure out how to drink properly from the fountain.

So...can you pinpoint any specifics around the coughing similar to my experience?

You say the Vet doesn't seem concerned.  Did they check for Asthma or check for a heart condition?  You can youtube cats having an asthma attack and see if what your furbaby does is similar to get some ideas if it seems like that is what is happening.

My cat has asthma. I found him around 7 months old and he had it then. I get him a shot every 12 weeks or do, have just in case meds I stick in his food if it gets bad and have a people inhaler also if needed. Heart issues look different and sound different. It's very likely asthma. Happy to help with any info.
