Hello everyone! This is the first forum I have been a part of, and I'm so glad it's about cats! Most of my life has revolved around my cats. When I was 5 years old my brother, mother, and I moved in with our new stepfather- who is awesome- and he had 2 cats named Ajax and Savannah. Ajax was a male orange tabby and Savannah was a female calico. I have so many fond memories of growing up with them. When I was 9 years old, however, Ajax passed after during a surgical procedure. That was my first life lesson about life and death, which I believe is very important to learn at an early ago. Not long after that we had to move across the country for my step fathers job. Luckily we were able to take Savannah with us. When we settled down we went to the "kill shelter" (its the animal shelter out here that puts down the animals if they aren't adopted in a certain amount of time. The living conditions of the animals are terrible..) and of course we had to adopt a cat. That is when we got Mr. Mo, an owner surrender. He's an orange tabby and he is giant! He's not fat though, his body is proportionate, but he is just a big cat. The way that he acts and moves reminds me very much of a maneless lion. He's very calm when he is inside, but when he goes outside (our cats are indoor/outdoor) he hunts and leaves us presents (yay -.-). Then our miracle cat came along. Sonny, an orange cat, followed my mom home one day and decided he wanted to live with us. Mo and Sonny have been very close ever since. About two years ago Savannah passed away from old age and we buried her with her brothers- Ajax- ashes. Then we too a visit to the pound again- just to look- and saw the most pitiful cat in the existence of humanity. Alexa was an owner surrender- she was shoved into the tiny metal cages that they have, sitting in her own fecal matter right next to her food. We put our fingers up to the cage and she'd sniff and lick our fingers then look at us with the most pitiful look I have ever seen. Keep in mind, she's an old cat, so she was going to be put down in a few days. A few cages over was the most playful post kitten- pre cat I've ever seen. He was meowing cutely at us and sticking his paw out when we'd walk by. He was a stray and didn't have a name. We went home (by we I've been meaning my mother and me) and decided we had to get them. So we went back the next day. When we tried to pick up Alexa she would hiss and swat and bite at us, but when we backed away she looked at us with remorseful eyes. We still decided to keep her. Turns out she had a really bad skin infection on her back because she's too fat to clean herself all the way back there and no one else was cleaning her. Now she is the sweetest darling ever. She'll just plop her entire mass on you and wrap her arms around you. It's sad, yet adorable, when she tries to meow because no sound comes out- it's just a puff of air. Now we ended up naming the stray cat Hydrogen, because we were talking about chemistry jokes and how he need a name. Hydrogen, as it turned out, had feline leukemia... so he died a few months later. And so we are in the present. Alexa, Mr.Mo and Sonny live in harmony. They wait at the door like dogs to go in or outside. Mr. Mo sleeps at my legs at night. I'm not sure why, though. When we first brought him home, that's where he slept for a week or so. But he hasn't slept with me for over a year. Then, all of a sudden he decided to sleep with me again every night without fail a month ago.

Anyway, sorry this post is so long. I felt it necessary to describe my cat past. It's wonderful to be here! :)

Hi, welcome to TCS!  Bless you and your family for all you do (and have done) for cats.  I think it's wonderful.
