And as far as I'm concerned, every day should be World Spay Day, until we reach that perfect state where every cat has a home, and every home has a cat (or more...)

We have two brand new articles about spaying and neutering cats today. Both feature stories and quotes by TCS members, so check them out and see if you're there!

Spaying and Neutering - What to Ask before the Surgery

Spaying and Neutering - What to Look for After the Surgery

Please help us spread the word! Share on Facebook, tweet and let your friends know.

Also, if you know anyone that still needs convincing -

Spay and Neuter Your Cats - FAQ

How do you feel about World Spay Day, and about spaying and neutering in general?

Also for the people who may be reading this who can't find a place to go they can afford-try putting ad on craigslist.  I have helped more then a few people get their cats spayed-Paying for the surgery and taking the cat down to clinic and recovering them in my house.  I have lived in this area a few years and JUST found out of a clinic!  So just the sharing of knowledge helps.  Only thing is expect some bad responses.  One of the people I helped got A LOT of emails saying how bad she was for one litter being born.

The more places that are made public the better for the animals they will help!

Spaying neutering is a requirement to live here!  I will take the kittens in as soon as I can(7/8 weeks).  I trap any cat I can and have them done/rabies shot. I actually have one who was trapped now hanging around my house-I think he has come to terms that this house feeding is better then being on own/hanging in his old area.  He is not part of that scene anymore-there is no need to fight.  He can enjoy his time.

I am all for World Spay Day.  Anne, I love the statement that the perfect state would be that every cat has a home and every home has a cat (or more).   Sadly, there are too many rabid (pun definitely intended) cat-haters that would love to see every cat killed.

Are you suggesting a CL ad asking about low cost spaying/neutering? I had never considered this option before. Could you please elaborate some more on that?

I have responded to ads asking for help getting cats fixed.  They will state that they have x amount of girls/boys and to tight to have them done or does anyone know of a place that is cheaper then xx amount of dollars. One lady I helped told me some people did say if you can't afford to fix them you should not own pets and I told her write back "Ok I will meet you and you can come take them as your pets."  She was TRYING!  that is more then some "owners" do.  But these ads HELP the cats who are suffering(being in heat all the time/pregnant or the fighting males.)

I have many cats and feel I need no more(.....) but if I can help someone keep theirs without adding to the population it is a GREAT thing.

I helped one person and when vet found out what I was doing she offered to do the spay/neuters even cheaper then her regular price.  Sometimes people just don't know that a clinic is so close or so cheap!

Also offering a ride to and from or help in recovery may be all that is needed(just a night at your house with a cage setup).  I feel totally capable of handling any spay/neuter recovery unless there is some major issue and my one neighbor is absolutely terrified, even in a healthy male neuter.

You're doing a wonderful thing. I wish more organizations were offering this exact service - low-cost and even fully-sponsored spay/neuter for those in need.

thanks:)

Me too!  I have found $10 state run program but have never had anyone I know get it or other programs that take a month or so to get qualified for.  That is why I often tell people look as soon as you get a kitten/cat.  And if your cat is pregnant look dnow and make appointment at few weeks old so by the time they are 8 weeks or so you can take the entire litter in and the mom.  Cheapest I have found now is 30 and that includes Rabies/distemper but that is only a special for next month or so.

Our first two cats were done in regular vets office in late 90's and both were a few hundred a piece.
